40% EK spawnrate & Communication

The 40% EK change was done specifically to combat whisper king meta is a problem when on day 2 people can see nothing but a wall of purple. It’s boring, the game isn’t interactive, and people want to do away with it.

The issue is that there is an attempt to make whisper king meta less prevalent by making it less rewarding to communicate to king doesn’t necessarily make people communicate more. They can just decide not to communicate at all. People are being incentivized to try strategies like never claiming as butler, nightshading King d4 and partying, and becoming a confirmed BD King that way. I have seen a significant drop in the amount of communication BD is actually doing.

I get a sense the game is moving in a direction where players often don’t want to communicate at all. Which is a bad thing. If you want to encourage people to say communicate with players other than kings make this communicating more rewarding by making it so players are less likely to die by doing this.

Don’t try to fix King Whisper meta by making communicating with the King worse. Make other forms of communication feel more rewarding.

These are not mutually exclusive. You can make Eking spawnrate 40% and still encourage communication with non-kings at the same time

The addition of Hunter for example encourages communication between randoms

Do you have any specific ideas on how to encourage communication between non-kings? Preferably one that doesn’t lead to everyone whispering one specific player?

This is exactly what I covered in my Whisper feedback thread. I think whispers are a nice way of communication that isnt as much explored outside of CLAIM TO ME metas. Part of this is Noble’s fault

I feel like we could make a BD class that encourages it

Agreed. 100%

Honestly I don’t think Noble is that bad in this sense anymore. Because Noble doesn’t require a claim to me meta to get the full information from whisper reading.

There already are and for various reasons:

Noble can get information from multiple townblocks mitigating the disadvantage of not using a central player

CW is most effective when you know the class of your target

Hunter and Knight discourage mindlessly attacking the more active players as scum (and thus encourage being active as BD)

We don’t need to make more classes for this purpose. Maybe some minor reworks though

What I’ve noticed is the class among the most likely to openly claim in this patch is the Court Wizard. They can confirm themselves with their abilities. Their empower can reveal information about other players. Their swap can prove other players are lying. All of their abilities strongly benefit from having more information about who other players claim to be.

I notice Noble tends to directly communicate with others. They have spy so often they know who other claims are. They also have gossip which is a somewhat weak ability when used at random, but really strong when used in conjunction with day communication. When you tell people “hey, flirt 8” gossip becomes a much stronger tool because either they will do it and you will see it through gossip, or they won’t do it and that will be a clue in itself.

Mystic, while encouraging players to whisper one player does have the tool private matters to encourage communication. People can whisper who they are without being outed to apostles, aristocrats, or just through being seen as a whisperer. This allows for really strong stuff like King to have Prince’s claim while Prince’s claim is relatively well hidden from evils due to not seeing Prince’s whisper. Mystic is rewarded for getting whispers directly to mystic.

I think it’s not merely enough for a character to have tools to defend theirselves. I think it’s not merely enough for a character to have tools to defend theirselves. Hunters and Chronomancers can defend theirselves relatively well but Hunters can benefit from nobody knowing there is a Hunter in the game, and Chronomancers can be a convert or even a kill target in spite of their pocket dimension. Still more tools to prevent players from getting killed could encourage more aggressive claiming as well. The other key tool is players kits rewarding them for doing more communication during the day with other players.

When I say Hunter helps here I mean because when you see someone aggressively trying to get information during the day it often means Hunter. The person they just whispered might know they are a Hunter but everyone else does not.

Since this is identical to a non-Hunter trying the same thing it encourages EVERYBODY to be more aggressive.

Knight has a similar effect but in a different way

Important note: Hunter and Knight don’t help here because they stop death, but rather because they PUNISH attacking.

Oh and I’d be more on the side of classes that benefit of getting information from others rather than classes that benefit from others knowing their class. Not that you can’t have both, it’s just that the former is closer to what we want

I would like to point out that none of the quality’s you listed actually makes you want to open claim. However they do encourage getting information from others which has a similar effect ultimately

Anyways my original question:

you say we should add more things to encourage communication.

Specifically what would you add to this effect?

This is precisely my point. Any kind of whisper, especially from evils, is discouraged.

No like ONLY from evils. For BD that’s a good thing and encourages them

Right but evils have rights too

Right. Which is why we have Apostles, Aristocrats and Possessors

Yeah but they want to whisper too

which is why we have illusionists and a knife

but the knife doesn’t work against knights and the illusionist is so rare

Honestly can we replace apostle telepathy with illusionist hidden whispers

Knights aren’t an issue when we are talking about Nobles
