Just because I game is called bastard doesn’t mean it’s like a game where the host lies to players left and right.
You’re very used to playing FoL and ToL so it wouldn’t make sense from your perspective to call them bastard, but most forums don’t play with the kind of mechanics FoL has at all and it normal setups those mechanics would make the game weird for the player.
No, we’re not putting FoL on the same level as game’s like those, because no bastard game really is the same, it just has elements that people would define as bastard.
Well I come from ToL/FoL and for me every bastard game, hence even every closed setup game is bad, because it’s either lying to you or not giving you every information you need.

It’s because I’m coming from mechanic-based games, not from social-based games.
Do people who come from the other direction have opinions that are at all invalid or inferior?
No, right? Of course not.
So I think in this case it’s just that the large majority of people appreciate games like FoL, ToL, etc. for reasons far different from your own, and as someone so closely integrated with the game it’s probably worth spending some time to try and see things from their point of view, try to understand why they like the game, and figure out how we can take into account most players when looking at things.
Imagine lying in a mechanic-based game to the player about the mechanics.
And I do see most FM games still as mechanic based games.
Having a minority opinion is fine
Just be cognizant of how others don’t necessarily share it, and be sure you aren’t making them feel belittled for not sharing your particularly extreme views on the subject, or trying to impose a set of standards that works for you but not the majority, and everything will work out just fine.

Because ToL ultimately derives from Mafia, and not the other way around. So it kinda makes sense to use the wider umbrella as a base and to highlight the differences that make ToL special, especially because most of us play many different games under that umbrella. Using one particular game in the genre as the basis for the genre that it is a part of is often a really easy way to limit your thinking in ways that are easily avoided with a bit of context, and in games in particular can lead to odd or even bad design choices, because there are often many ways to learn from things that are similar, even if they aren’t exactly the same, and apply that knowledge to make things better for everyone.

FoL was originally a 15-player game
Why? Because Town of Salem did it.
But we later broke from convention when we realized that convention didn’t suit us.
However, we still remain daystart, so we can, for example, look at how other daystart games manage their D1 to get an idea of why our daystarts are like they are in ToL/FoL.
