welcome to Kai is an Idiot part 430
It has very little padding, no AC, as little ventilation as possible, and drives through the desert
Have fun
oh i will
So basically, focus on efficiency rather than comfort?
This man wants death
As long as it’s still safe, yes
fuck ive been found out
Looks to be quite efficient design-wise.
Maximizing surface area of the solar panel for net energy gain and the front design looks to be made to minimize drag caused by air resistance. How are the tires?
Specifically designed for solar cars, actually
They have an incredibly low rolling resistance
Bro it looks like a submarine that’s cool as hell, how fast can it get
So basically, focus on self-sufficiency?
The engine is of the same as an electric car as it uses the energy obtained from the solar panels and then converts it to electricity to power it, right?
The tires are actually only rated to 80 mph, so that’s our top speed.
The last time we took one to a track with tires for higher speeds was 2011 or 2013 (don’t remember which) and the car got up to 115 or so.
I’m sure our current car could hit around 120 or higher, but we must follow the speed limit while racing across Australia, so there’s no real point in spending the time to try that out.
Technically, our battery acts as a middle-man a lot of the time, but yes it has an electric motor (or two, TBD) with no engine.
Still 80 with solar power seems crazy good, I hope you have fun with it. Do u get to drive it at all, even just for testing
I was a driver candidate, and have driven it, our 2017 car, and our mule car (steel frame for testing parts before putting them on the real thing) several times.
Was not chosen to be a driver, sadly - on the bright side, this is due to my importance as a member of the team’s support system. Instead, I’ll be in the vehicle directly behind the car, monitoring all information from the car and deciding what it will do for the entire race.
Also fixing it if anything electrical breaks.
That’s awesome still. Is this event being streamed at all, it be a fun watch
Literally no clue, but it’s a up to seven-day race, so I doubt there’s anywhere to watch the whole thing.
Wtf couldn’t even provide ac?
