I birthed it with my hands and photoshop skills

cool you do that I will be elsewhere

I don’t even know what this discussion is about at this point :joy_cat:

Something related to the topic, presumably

I have very boring takes.

Spec chat is whatever. Ultimately it’s a bunch of people outside of the game solving the game. It shouldn’t matter if the chat is public or not. Let the host decide, I suppose.
Dead chat – same difference, except it’s saltier. Sometimes, if dead interaction exists, people are technically not outside of the game anymore, but whatever. In most cases, shouldn’t matter if it’s public post-game or not. Let the host decide.
Mafia chat – should be public. Seeing the game from the mafia’s perspective post-game is fun and you shouldn’t use the “but my meta” argument here, because I find it selfish. I expect plenty of people to disagree with me on that point, though.

Also, let people decide whether they want to backup or spectate. The host could just… make spectators disallowed, if their presence annoys the host. That’s a decent enough solution for “OoOOoOOOOo too many specs.”

oooOoOoOO, but I said mean things and I don’t want people to know that.

Well then… don’t say those things? And if you don’t want people to know what you said, you’re just being dishonest. It’s more courageous and respectable to fully owe up to your statements. We all realize it’s a game where emotions reach highs and lows all the time. Especially when you’re a mafia member.

Don’t be a coward, and respect the other people on the website.

Why exactly is enabling and encouraging metagaming good? On the opposite, shouldn’t be all mafia chats be private per default?

It’s being done anyway, so I don’t see the issue. Mafia knows what town is doing all the time. Why can’t town learn what mafia was doing post-game? Isn’t it supposed to go both ways?

And the dumb thing about it is that not publicizing mafia chats means that you have to roll scum with someone to realize what they do as scum. In other cases, you will never know.

So basically, knowledge about somebody’s scum thoughts is locked behind the rand. That’s terrible.

also, people only read mafia chats postgame to vanity search

Metagaming is an issue that has already been completely solved.

Either don’t play by such a static meta you get instantly caught, or use an alt, which are now free to meet your meta-free desires

We are the only site I have ever played on where Mafia chats aren’t always released in post-game, and on some that process is automated to occur instantly upon game end. In like 6 years of playing Mafia online, I have been a part of two games that have had redactions of any kind - we restricted one singular channel in DRFM for what amounts to good reason imo (extenuating circumstances), and then the game I was scum with you, which was redacted purely because you asked for it, despite having nothing negative or personal whatsoever. Nowhere else is this even an option, and nobody else has an issue with it.

At the end of the day, both metagaming and stalking have solutions that do not involve completely privatizing scum chat, and at this point they’ve been discussed ad nauseam.

Also fwiw you could also always play games on other sites that don’t have meta on you yet

You could even use another name there so nobody can trace you back

Not that I’ve known anyone who’s done this
