it does, because although it has a lot of highly specific mechanics, it has an equal amount of bullshittery and complexity, enough to make rigid information almost impossible, so the net effect is that the mechanics only give you rough info, which you then have to specify via social play.

That’s one of the best parts of BotC for me, honestly; the fact that the moderator actually gets the (limited) ability to interfere in the game and prevent the sort of one-sided mechanical games that you can have in a more strict setup (witness every FoL game that gets won by D3).

This game also allows for a lot more versatility in evil claims. Just last night, I had a BMR game where I bluffed Tea Lady as Devil’s Advocate, and singlehandedly controlled the town narrative up until the second-to-last day.
