I interpreted what Mole said like this:

Frost is trying to look scummy, because he is town and not trying to get nightkilled, calling him town, thus defending him.

I mean scum has no reason to look scummy…

Mole might have meant it like this:

Frost is being so scummy right now, it’s like he’s trying to act scummy.
