I have seen it happen
also if there exists a strategy that powerful, and the only reason it doesnāt always happen is that some players are bad, then the strategy is kind of broken

Yea but like Iād argue that random king aligment hurts game more from balance prespective than a strat that will be used only in like 1 of 500 games
How to improve town play:
Be like Italy
Never role town again
thatās what we call swing
itās like drugs
good in moderated doses
horrible when taken to extremes
Yea but swing that exists on average constantly breaks balance even if a little bit still results in basically same consequences(where u like lose just cuz the rand goes wrong)
With rare big swing it isnāt as bad because it rarely impacts players and when it does u can just leave(cuz the game ends fast thatās what I meant) and rejoin and not worry about that thing probably any time soon
ignore, wrong thread
I wanna poke this thread again
I did some real dumb stuff in FE, I didnāt understand rather basics and just kinda reacted
people in chats saying that both town and scum played terribly and it was a mess.
welp? What(besides myself/oB please) was done so wrong, and what could be done better to counter that? How should townplay ajust?
are there any new thoughts that came out of it?
mechanics
like in general
happened
aAAAAAa
every single wolf was a mech misclear(save mode and kyo)
for a closed setup, mech was used too much
I dont think ITAs were the problem
I think two root problems exist
am I wrong? this is actual question
I think the first one isnāt necessarily that mechanics are overused (although that is the trend here), but rather than they arenāt used correctly. Mechanics are a good way to read into the game (even in a closed setup they have some value, such as Ici assuming Zone to be truthful for being an even night tracker), but itās often done in a terrible way. Mechanics and reads need to be incorporated together more often instead of it being one or the other.
this is why peopleās actions making sense given their (ability) actions is a pretty important way to see if the claim makes sense
see Alice read on me based off my Hippo claim in BotFIV
hello yes I am the cop
N1 I checked the guy who was always getting ITAād the next day and N2 I checked my strongest townread
the problem is some players would absolutely do that as town
see: hello yes I am the cop this is my greencheck /vote greencheck
in case of leafia / app in Insurgency
Their mason claim was very clearly convenient (1/20 chance to clear and claiming self resolving?) and should have been thought of as such
so
donāt read into the validity of āthat might be legitā
rather
does their play make sense
softing isnāt clearing
anyone can do it and act completely contrary to how that role might want to play
The lack of claiming and following ITA shots worked well, but there were still two main problems with the townplay that match.
First was that people were not asking why the wolves were NKāing those specific players.
If they asked why the wolves NKād me despite implying that Iām a VT then theyād realize that they should have probably followed my readlist.
If they asked why the wolves NKād Arete and Marshal over the outed cop or the outed masons, then theyād probably have realized that Chloe/PKR/App/Leafia were fake.
The same thing happened in Clown Fiesta where the town basically āconfirmedā Luxy and didnāt really bother re-evaluating him despite making it to LyLo after outing himself as a full cop d2.
Second was that people have no idea how to spot a wolf-led quickhammer.
If Ob and TBE had spotted the wolves quickhammering Derps for a ML then theyād probably have either prevented it or just shot into Derpsā wagon.
IIRC the same thing happened in RM4 where people didnāt realize that Wazza/Kyo/EVO/Me were outed even into the night.
If several people are voting a player in quick succession, then theyāre all probably wolves and the game is almost closing. Also becareful when voting during LyLo/MyLo scenarios. If youāre V and you park a vote onto another villager then youāre giving an opportunity for the wolves to all pile up on your target and win the game.
Tbh, thatās not too out of PKRās townrange.
the N1 check could come from a real cop (even though everyone knows youāre supposed to check nulls, people check scumreads because they like getting redchecks)
the N2 check was ???
I mean we did leave flavor softing breadcrumbs throughout d1 to be able to claim that I found them and it wasnāt a 1/20, but yeah it still shouldnāt have been pushed to the side like it was.
Itās possible they thought you were actual town pr given your tendency to fakeclaim
So simple logic says reading into this might not be great idea
I think this was the important question to ask (minus the part about shooting masons, as generally the play isnāt to shoot fishy masons) and probably would have blown the game open had it been asked
