While the forum is great for longer posts, our dominant community (13k+ players) resides on Discord @ https://discord.gg/tol
#WHOA
Xblade, we all know us forumers are the alphas here
But you are missing EXCLUSIVE news like links back to this forum!
like… upcoming patch announcements!
and… new features exclusive to Discord!
Dood, that news is like, totally last fortnight
Oh, so you noticed that, ehehe… forgot I’m dealing with fellow social deductionaters ;D
Don’t you forget it boi, do you remember that time I converted like, 4-5 people to the forum cult for the NFoL?’
why is it gone ?
Srsly when is :cult: coming to forums
The Panda cult already came
I’ve said it before
Not a fan of the way Discord has only two modes
Continuously push things up or pin them and then have them continuously get pushed away there too
I feel it buries things and makes discussion on individual topics near impossible
And that therefore it shouldn’t be the primary spot for any news
But hey
Doesn’t this happen on any medium with an archives update? Fair complaint if you are arguing about how stats, discord updates, patch note links, and other TOL related get posted in #news and you’d rather patch updates and discord updates have their own archives.
Try searching an old discussion on Discord, and then try doing it on the forums.
There’s a world of difference.
With 13k people on the server, theres a lot more traffic, so naturally its harder to find discussion particularly in casual threads such as the general chat or off-topic.
Right, a problem which simply does not exist on the forums.
Its much easier to find a conversational tone on Discord, it has its advantages and disadvantages, when it comes to things like announcements, discord reaches a far wider audience, thats why I think the devs consider it the main hub
but forums is much easier to access
But is it not just as important to hit the deepest parts of your audience as it is to hit the widest reaches, if not more so?
Not to mention that anyone can access the forum webpage, without needing to first join the Discord.
Agreed, I believe I-42 does an excellent job of both catering to the widest reaches via Discord and the deepest parts via Forum, from what I’ve noticed, suggestions posted on the forums are more likely to be considered than a suggestion posted in the discord.
That’s not to say people who only post in Discord have inferior suggestions, but you are right in saying that it is far easier to access or pull up an old discussion, and I think a lot of that is due to the smaller playerbase over here rather than the forums lolbrainfart Discord.
I will mourn the day when the forums have a larger-than-life playerbase and when it is harder to form those close friendships that many members of the FoL/FM community share. I endeavour to make the most of how amazing this community is at current
It is thanks to such a great wee bunch that promotions such as the NFoL was a success, and why I believe future events like it will do just as well, if not better
Okay but then why does it feel like every month there’s some new big thing that is just completely absent from the forums
Not to mention the continuous lack of statistics and any non-major patchnotes
