“Just because you can’t use magic…” he trails off, and then chuckles. “Well, keep thinking like that. You’ll make it easier.”

“um… is something wrong?”

He decides not to respond to Matilda, and he stares at Arthur, shaking his head.

“I am not crazy. I myself cannot do any magic. I do not have a wand, I cannot control time, space, reality, any of that.”

why else do you think we’re here. I’m simply using context clues to decipher everything. Although… judging by what you knew about dearest Sonja, perhaps that assessment was incorrect.

Concerned about the other girl’s tears, Matilda walks over to [Night] and touches her shoulder softly.
”Here, have this. When the Sisters are the most cruel to me and I’m sore for days afterwards, looking at the beauty of nature always seems to make the pain go away.”

Alison pulls a small conductor’s baton out of her sleeve and begins waving it around humming.

“Magic wasn’t necessary for that. That was quite easy, in fact.” Arthur spreads his arms wide and bows. “I know all of your symbols.”

She tenses up, but doesn’t turn to look at Alison.

“Put it down. You’re making people nervous.”

“oh. um…
Sorry!”

“If not by magic…then how?” she asks, confused.

W- What do y- you mean…? H- How do you…

Alison snaps and the baton disappears.

He looked.

Didn’t you notice?

Would it make you less tense if I sung you a lullaby?

She relaxes, closing her eyes.
