so it’s a bit of a double edged sword when you clear people for that
which is why im trying to be a bit strict on my social clears meanwhile)
Well yeah yet wouldn’t the mastermind want to end the game faster by mistrials? As the longer the game goes, the more information there is to PoE them.
Lets go along with MM wins with # of mistrials = 3.

i personally would always try to win during the main game trying to help blackeneds get away and fuck with everything as much as possible, because that way i’m in control, rather than trying to go under the radar until the final trial only to get modoutted or boxed in by lore - something i can’t control
some more reserved people would probably try to slip under the radar
which, at least this game, would probably be more effective
and also require less effort 
either way you can say the mastermind is playing to their wincon - by getting the number of mistrials up, or by setting themselves up for the final trial if they plan to win that way
I guess it’s possible for the MM to go for the long con by catching the blackened.
Yet they always have TMI on who the blackened is unless we have Datbird disabling the cameras for example, which means the MM can be like a normal participant for that chapter.
(if i was mm (i am) i’d probably try to (pretend to) have an “open mind” on things on every trial (so it doesnt look like i have TMI, duh) but always vote correctly anyway (but make 1 mistake, ofc) just to like, not be "perfect, y’know?)
Of course that idea of making the MM a normal participant by making the blackened unknowable is something we’ve never seen before right?

ftr this would have been incredibly awkward if i randed mastermind with this classcard
either i would have to reluctantly use my abilities to solve every trial, or do nothing and then get boxed in when my talent is revealed and i had contributed nothing
So I have a feeling the MM might slip on leaking TMI on the blackened on any chapter except 2.
Therefore it might be worth ISO diving everyone in the MM PoE and try to catch them that way.

also how come you killed someone with magic ink to meet your wincon of killing someone without magic
