In those circumstances, being in an army serving the direct needs of all the gods at once was a recipe for disaster. He slipped away from the brawl, and calmly strolled through the forest. Naturally, this was viewed as suspciious, so a group of Olympian soldiers chased after him. He furitively looked behind him to see himself being tackled. Wily Odysseus then noticed something: he had no ground to hit. He plummeted down the cliffs into the sea.
