obviously we don’t put any lore saying that the Mastermind has a ritual requiring somebody’s hair in the game, that’s too obvious

instead we just see if the players notice the pattern that every time a shadowy action occurs, it’s always in a room with a little piece of hair tied into some strange knot on the floor

maybe say that the Mastermind can do that at some point in the game
because earlier on the investigators can cover more ground
but later in the game they probably need to be told that the Mastermind can do the shadowy figure thing, just not the exact details

an older version of the ability had the shadow figure be somehow recognisably them
maybe we could have there be some subtle indicator of the MM’s identity on there that makes them not want to overuse the shadow clone?

obviously there are plenty of decent hiding spots but it’s not trivial
