I think it’s likely that…
Either:

1, 3v3 were town on 1 boat, mafia on other. Cross kill
2, 3v3 were a 2maf,1town and a 1maf,2town. One of the 2 maf detonated the 2 town one. One of the 2 town detonated the 2 mafia one.

There’s no way mafia chose to double kill mafia… and thought that being with 2 townies would let them survive too.
