here i suspect its more binary. Do we have the prerequisite things? Is there anything that would immediately stop us? if these are yes and no, then we win.
so if we have a consistent source of food in the long run (greenhouse) a way to protect ourselves from the zombies thats renewable (traps and stuff that dont use ammo) and nothing that can kill us from the inside (all traitors dead) then we survive the winter
no i think its more like kids mistakenly created this virus, and that a cure for a virus can quite often come from the virus itself.
also it just has tools to experimentally figure shit out, which the hospital has less of
