if we think about it
what is forum of lies really
is it a site dedicated to the game throne of lies? Is it a forum mafia playing community? Is it a group of people dedicated to discussing throne of lies? Forum mafia? Maybe each other (ha gay)?
What if it’s none of these things? What if it’s just a construct? We’ve constructed this idea of a forum to give structure to our lives. We’ve built a temple to our hobby in the form of the Forum of Lies. But what is it really? What is all of this really? Is it just made up?

What do these words mean?
I initially encountered this string with disgust and revulsion. “How juvenile” I thought, “Toilet humour isn’t very creative is it.”
But then I thought, is it really toilet humour? It’s just a string of words is it not? What makes it inappropriate? Is there an inherent value to these words? Initially one might say yes. Generally we as humans divide words into different types. We generally think of the words “Kiki” and “Bouba” as both being very different. But what truly makes them different? Why do we assign value to them? Are social constructs hard wired into us? Or maybe it was some person who first initially developed these ideas? Is it possible that these ideas have epigenetically become absorbed into our minds? It seems ridiculous but it might be plausible because social constructs have to come from somewhere. Astand is a powerhouse when it comes to making unique, enjoyable, and somewhat-balanced setups. Not only has he come up with some of the most wacky and fun mechanics I’ve seen in my time playing FM and set the stage for how to make Good Rolemadness Games, but he’s also someone many people look up to when it comes to hosting games in general.
We have some great hosts here on FoL but I’ve never seen someone as obsessed with perfection and player enjoyment as astand. You can see it everywhere in his games, and it’s impossible to pinpoint every little thing he does that makes his games so great. He has beautiful rolecards and visuals to immerse the players, a well organized OP and first post where he has a graveyard and threadmarks, a standard for how to do votecounts (wagons are ordered by size; it’s amazing). I legit can’t list everything.
Not only is he dedicated to making the game appear clean and tidy, but he’s also incredibly dependable and treats all of his games like a full-time job. He threadcamps and posts votecounts at the speed of light, is always available for SoD/EoD, and makes sure someone is always around to keep an eye on things when he has sleep/work. This extends past his games as well. Need a European co-host? Astand’s up for it. Need a VCBot? He’s got ya.
We might not see any of his games in the future, but I don’t think we need any more games to know that he is (or… was) one of the best hosts our site has seen.
Will miss him tbh. I looked up to him a lot
