The sun rises over Adiart castle!
Pre-Game Flavor (I finished this at 5 AM so that's why it sucks)
The two scribes sat side-by-side in the corner of the courtroom. Ever since the castle had gone on lockdown, the court had lost the life it had previously held. Before, brightly-dressed nobles had crowded in groups debating the latest trade policy, while the household servants had whispered gossip from one to another.
“What do you think is going to happen?” asked the first scribe. She was a young woman, scarcely an adult but already known as one of the brightest scribes in the castle. There was a reason she had been kept around when most of the nobility had fled to their estates and most of the staff had been dismissed.
The other, slightly older, shook their head. “I don’t know,” they said. “I hope we’ll be safe.” They bit their lip. “At this point it’s hard to care about who wins. This is all – I’m sure it matters to the royal family, but one way or another, what matters to me is that my family has bread to eat. And I’m worried about getting caught in the crossfire.”
“Would that really happen, Jgoes?” asked the younger scribe.
“I don’t know, Amelia,” said the elder one. “I want to believe that they would just – let us be – but – two weeks ago I wasn’t expecting to hear that the Queen had been murdered.”
Amelia frowned. “Promise me you’ll stay safe,” she said.
Jgoes hesitated for a moment. “I promise,” they said.
As the remaining members of the court filed into the room, Amelia and Jgoes split up, one on each side of the room. The rest of the court had a mission: to find whoever was responsible for the Queen’s death, and bring them to justice.
All the two of them could do now was hope that their kingdom would survive.
