The reasons were basically in this post and I remember Vulgard saying something about it too. I agree with the points here, it could very easily be distancing between you and Braix so I think using Court Spies on you is not bad here.

braix did just get chloe to slip as no plaguebearer and i don’t think that it’s fake

What I mean is, if you were to read up on the classes I can be, you would’ve seen that Assassin can dayocc.
…Chloe not knowing that the Plaguebearer class exists here doesn’t indicate anything about her class or alignment.
