2-For-1 and 1 extra use of Nightshade means that the Assassin has +2 free possible kills compared to metagame you are referring to.
I don’t mean to imply that this is what makes all the difference, but it is a significant difference. I don’t think it can be overstressed how much the high mortality rate in Unseen games helps the evils’ cause.

He did get a boost but that wasn’t it. The boost was being able to A. Investigate on off nights. B. Become the assassin if alone and C. Occupy immunity.
Pretty sure their win rate is 30-40% or around that.
