I can’t derail because the ppl I’m DMing with are really young kids lol and they currently are still… not the strongest imaginers, nor the best listeners.
Give them a year or 2.

oh yeah that makes sense, you just gotta hope that they follow your plot hooks then, or do a goblin campaign or something
also there’s probs a guide on how to dm for little kids somewhere on yt so that might help

The derailing thing will only come in later on when they grow older.
Make sure your character names are appropriate! For someone called Ganymede may not be interested in a campaign that has NPCs named Candy to defeat an evil thief called Lord Potter.
