Again I don’t think that really addresses my point
The problem with moving or trying to move discussions to the forums is that there’s a higher barrier to entry to the forums – if you want to join the Discord, most people who play ToL already have a Discord account, so literally all you have to do is click a button, whereas joining the forums has a slightly higher barrier to entry that’s nonetheless a significant deterrent
This means that ideas shared on the Discord will inevitably reach a wider audience (please do not turn this into an argument about whether forum people or non-forum-people have better suggestions/feedback), which means that most people, even if they do have a forum account, will prefer to share them on the Discord to reach a greater number of people
Additionally, starting a discussion on the forum feels more significant – I would feel weird about starting a discussion about some minor thing in its own thread on the forum, whereas it’s really easy to go into #general on the Discord and say ‘so what do we think about Alch’
Discussion was actually moved away from here, and while I do understand your point here that is also a choice on the part of the developers.
And that’s basically the crux of my point on why some things benefit from being here - the forum environment is better able to handle discussions from a format level.
I’m not convinced that the forum format is inherently superior for all serious discussions
If people feel well here and are actually tol players, surely they will use the forums for discussions if it is superior.
Why is this important to you?
To Discord? Yeah it generally is.
Readability is better, search-ability is better, text formatting is better, you can respond and quote specific things in ways that Discord literally doesn’t allow, you can build in polls if you want, track specific topics infinitely easier, sort and categorize discussions much better, and more I can’t even think of rn
Having a better format is not the only piece of the puzzle
Things are rarely do one-dimensional, especially when it comes to the actions of people
There’s always been tension. It only truly shot up January this year, I believe.
Besides, there’s nothing more than I hate which is when a ToL person comes out of nowhere and tries to make ideas to turn FoL into more like ToL. (I’m not on about people like Priestess, Kape or others here), I’m on about the ones that just stick to that thought that FoL should be just forum ToL.
Remember that admin guy who said we didn’t knew anything about ToL it still makes me laugh to this day
I did…,…
To be fair, lots of people here haven’t played since ages
so thats kinda right
At the time it was even less true lmao
As is, it’s still pretty untrue given the lack of any major updates in so long that you’d have to have not played in a really long time to honestly be out of the loop. Meta can change, yes, but from my experience that never really negates how to play a game you’ve sunk a few days into.
What happens when you mindwarp an Observer in a night nobody flipped, but the reaper was attacked?
I feel like the fact that someone doesn’t know some obscure interaction (we didn’t know exactly how it works until a couple weeks ago) doesn’t automatically disqualify their opinion
For an arbitrarily chosen ToL player I could probably come up with an interaction question that they don’t know the answer to, that doesn’t disqualify their opinion
My point was a different, Arete. They probably don’t know how standard mindwarp works today.
That question doesn’t get at that point, though, for that you’d want something like ‘what do you get if you Mind Warp a Paladin the night they check the CL’
I don’t know the current FoL stuff anymore after not playing a few months, and thats just fol.
Orange can correct me if I’m wrong but I think part of his point is that even if he no longer has as good of a grasp of some of the object-level questions as he used to, he has a good understanding of higher-level, generalizable balance principles such that he can still provide useful input – Orange, is this a fair characterization of what you’ve been saying?
