I looked at the ToC and felt my will to actually work on it drain out of my soul
whatās ToC
Table of Contents
table of contents
I have started working on it, but I usually spend a lot of time reading systems
so this may take a while
Read the section on culture too. Itās important.
One of my friends said that the fact that the culture part of the book comes first is what gave L5R an edge over other books for them. You arenāt reading first how the god of thunder scattered seven pieces of his sword at its creation and how he chose a demigod as his hero, you are reading how people fucking work at this society and thatās way more important.
Iām thinking in running the adventure recommended to beginners.
So donāt read anything after the Book of Void section of the core book.
I donāt even read the book, so all is well.
So
You are playing children.
There are a lot of versions of this adventure @maximusprime so you wonāt receive any spoilers of the game we are playing.
Basically there is this samurai adulthood cerimony
You will playing characters who are completing it.
neat
A Level 0 Samurai starts with Level 1 in all Attributes, plus School and Family bonuses. The character starts with 4 Skills that a samurai beginner receives from his school training, and 25 Initial Experience Points to build your character. They only receive five Disadvantage points, and cannot have Advantages or Disadvantages based on social promotion or demotion (such as Social Position). They donāt have a Level 1 School (shugenjas do not receive Affinity/Disability) and receive only the most basic equipment.
Level 0 characters cannot carry a katana, although they are allowed to carry other weapons (including a wakizashi) as a mark of his samurai position.
itās really only likeā¦ 200? pages
a lot of lore then a decent bit of mech
the advanced stuff isnāt really that necessary i think
Advanced stuff is for big brainers
The first 70 pages are lore
The next 25 pages are how the game works
Then you get a whooping 110 pages listing the options you can pick, 40 of those being a list of spells
Then there are 60 pages for advanced mechanics
And a whooping 100 pages for the GMās book
So expect to read about 130 pages
My choice: Skip all pages.
I found a free character manager for this game (L5R 4e) which Iām probably going to use as the next best thing since, sadly, this system does not exist in herolab, officially or fan-made.
Hereās the link if anyone is interested: https://sourceforge.net/projects/l5rcm/
I really think it is better to use the text thing because I also need to see how you guys are instead of guessing what is your HP right now and if you have or not used a void point
