i’m suprised you haven’t seen a sleep specialist when you say you can’t fall asleep naturally because that seems like a serious issue
but I think that is something that you should do
Also for the record things like dialing back screen usage an hour before bed are definitively linked to better sleep
So to say “oh that’s not the whole issue” is like, sure, but the added “so it’s unhelpful advice” is just factually incorrect
I think in general most people (or at least most people with persistent trouble sleeping) are aware that one ought to be reducing screen usage before going to sleep
which … reduces the helpfulness of the advice, at the very least? tbf there are definitely people who benefit from advice of the form ‘you know that thing you should be doing? do it’ but
I’m not saying it’s not helpful advice, It’s linked to better sleep
but for medical issues it is not the solution and we were talking about medical problems.
I also try to avoid medicine as much as possible (within reason) but I’m not going to actively discourage people who might genuinely be helped by it from using it
Presumably people reading the forums fall into that category
There’s rarely a “the” solution
Bits and pieces come together to form a whole
Most people with sleeping problems wouldn’t have sleeping problems if they would follow all advices (while some advices like “have less stress” or “have less depression” are actually not that easy to manage lul)
just don’t be sad 4head
if you are ever sad
just stop
instructions unclear
tried to stop being sad, instead stopped having emotions
:^)
Sure, meds can help, but it only removes the symptoms and not the root of the problem
Thats why going to a doctor before taking meds for a longer time should be unavoidable
Ok do y’all know what the actual least helpful advice is?
So like I get food poisoning and then I look up “what to do if you got food poisoning” and then the top article is like “prevention is the best medicine” like bitch do you think i’m on an article called “how to treat food poisoning” because I was just fucking curious?
Yes it’s right, but also so unhelpful and it always makes me annoyed.
just don’t get food poisoning
I can’t un-eat those shrimp so at least tell me how to not feel like shit or just tell me that I can’t not feel like shit and when I will stop feeling like shit
but when you are on an article about treatment of a certain illness or injury the worst thing you can hear is “prevention is the best medicine”
like “oh don’t eat shrimp your mom made because she clearly doesn’t know how to cook shrimp” is common sense and AAAAAh
this is all hypothetical of course
I always cook the shrimp round here
Last time when I had food poisoning, I simply waited it out
yes I did that too
but I came across 3 articles for advice and most of the advice was “don’t eat bad food”
I just want to be told i’m out of luck if I am and then told when I should expect it to end.
