So let’s say you’re an Evil King, and someone is about to get lynched who you really don’t want to be lynched that day (e.g. they’re the Mastermind and you want them to live for one more day so that they can convert)

Let’s further say that there are almost exactly 12 hours left in the day, but that the town is about to hammer them

Grand Trials always allow for up to 12 hours for the accused to make their defense

if the King GTs any other player, there’s some chance that that player will make their defense and be pardoned (as in FoL 27)

however, if he GTs himself, he can proceed to AFK for the next 12 hours to guarantee that the GT lasts for at least those 12 hours
