Jeoffrey: Surely, if you wanted to kill someone, you’d do it in the least obvious way
Jeoffrey: If the lock was broken, and left that way, then it wasn’t magic, because if you could magically open the lock, couldn’t you just lock it again and make the death seem accidental?
what if they could not perform such a spell? they would be forced to break open with magic
Jeoffrey: May I inspect the door?
Man: Sure, go ahead
Jeoffrey heads back into the sleeping carriage
He returns after a few minutes
Jeoffrey: The wood of the door appears to have been pulled apart, like a crowbar may do
then my theory is correct. but I still don’t see the proof that it was magical fire
I think we have been thinking about this murder wrong the entire time
Jeoffrey: How about this idea, everyone turns out their pockets, and we see if anyone would have the means to break the door or start a fire
I pull out everything I own yes I do own a crow bar
Binkins makes a suspicious face, the passengers turn out their possessions:
Binkins has a tea set, some books and a fresh suit
Lady Bysteria has more outfits than could possibly fit in her case, yet they fit
Lucretia has a wooden brush with bite marks over it
Jeoffrey has some papers, a quill and a small inkwell
Briwyn has several magical runes and tomes, along with a small pouch of gold
Pulls everything out
“I alsso have a crowbar”
Binkins looks suspiciously at Nysia too
it turns out only Val and Nysia have crowbars
Binkins: So, it was one of them?
Jeoffrey: That’s what the evidence in hand seems to suggest
if 1 of us where the killer. why would we keep the crow bar in hand?
Jeoffrey: That’s a fair point
Binkins: Why do you even need a crowbar?
“If I were to kill I would throw out everything relating to fire, yet I ssstill have a tinderbox and torchesss”
“I have it caussse you never know when you might need to pry open a crate of loot”
we are adventures. in our line of work it pays to have a crow bar
Binkins: That seems like the kind of thing the killer would say
Binkins: Adventurers? Or do you mean petty thieves?
I mean what I say.
“Actually I haven’t even usssed the tinderbox yet, everything ssshould still be there”
