A balancing act?

Merc adds an interesting level of complexity to how the game is played. While itā€™s possible the Merc is contracted to a scum class, there is also a chance he is contracted to BD. If the Prince just assumes the contract is evil, he risks losing 2 BD members.

And at least for myself, Merc is fun due to having a very straightforward goal: protecting your contract. It puts the game into a simple state where youā€™re not quite as concerned as what happens around you, so much as the state of your contract.

I think right now though, Merc is in such a simplified gamestate, that he makes it unfun for everyone else, especially when on scum.

I think if weā€™re going to keep Merc as is (by that I mean 1 contract alone) the Force Pardon must be removed. I would also like the suicide to return. As it currently stands, executing a merc target as BD is almost always positive. If itā€™s a scum class, youā€™ve outed the mercā€™s faction and can kill him next. But even then, you have to take two days to do this. If theyā€™re BD, you now have an unconvertable BD member.

I realize the the suicide mechanic was removed to increase the fun of Merc, however I think that was a poor way to buff him. I believe a lot of players find it ā€œunfunā€ as Merc to have your target die n1, but they have abilities to prevent that. Just like with Hunter, if they donā€™t use their protective abilities, they should be punished. Itā€™s just part fo the game.

Letā€™s just remove all the classes

Iā€™m not even suggesting to remove the Mercenary. Iā€™m just curious what the his purpose is supposed to be so we can design around that.

To keep their contract alive or help them win

Thatā€™s his goal. But like how does the possablely of a Mercenary improve the game?

You could ask the same question about half the classes.

It adds variety to the game, and adds a neutral that can possibly benefit either faction.

Iā€™m sure there is one. Iā€™m just having trouble naming it.

Close enough for now.

I think itā€™s more like a balancing act

But a merc having a mastermind as a contract is Op

The other neutrals heavily favor one faction.

Alch mostly favors BD and Fool/Scorned favor Unseen/Cult.

With the Merc, they could be with any faction

I donā€™t think anyone loves suciding

No one likes dying n1 either. No one likes getting executed by Prince.

Plain and simple, no one likes dying.

Yes. But when you ARENT KILLED AT NIGHT. Yet you still sucide because of something happening to your contract.

Same thing with scorned winning. Suciding is just unfun.

But Scorn only suicides now when she fails her mission. Similar to what I want for Merc. If she fails to protect her target, she dies.

ā€¦
Sorc?

Sorry your target got exed by prince and you canā€™t stop it!

What if Merc only made their target immune?
