Like, his entire attack on me regarding my incorrect read on Cheese was just to discredit my read on him.

From his perspective, when you were talking about your read on him to other people as if it were 100% accurate (your own words) it makes sense for him to ad honinem you, even if it’s unproductive otherwise.
