[MISC] Coup Thread A - Solic Wins! (1/5)

Well this could work… I just didn’t want people to feel bad about being unable to join since it almost filled in 3 hours

Also I’ll probably do this. To speed up things. This is a good idea. 50% works right?

Sure, sounds fine here

Abusing mechanics that were not intended per game design is not always seen as cheating, but just using the established mechanics like anyone else can. This can be a long unnecessary discussion, so let me say that I get your point.

I would however suggest for 50% of number of passes lowering the cycle to 12, but not outright skipping it. Only unanomity skips it. A big part of the game is calling someone else’s bluff and different timezones make any less that you can miss out on calling out competitors.

There might also be weird final 3 situations with 1 player being able to skip.

I’m probably overthinking it. Just bored waiting for the start :upside_down_face:

Are we going to use the custom roles? Tbh I’d prefer to limit that if possible by maybe adding one of each of the cards in OP just cuz they don’t seem like they been balanced super well and might just make the game more crazy than fun

That makes it really hard to bluff with them though if they are unique.

Well this is an option I could do. Problem is that this simultaneously sorta nerfs Ambassador and Inquisitor’s info in a sense.

In a 3 of each card deck, the info Ambassador and hopefully Inquisitor gets is pretty balanced, but if it’s 4 it’s weaker.

It hasn’t even been 24 hours since signups open bruh

Also at worst we’re probably just adding 2 more cards, and at worst maybe 4. So there’s not gonna be too much chaos I think.

Card Picked Votes Voters Vetos
Jester 1 Jane
Farmer 2 Jane, Whysper
Priest 1 Jane
Socialist 1 Twil1ght, PKR Whysper
Capitalist 1 Twil1ght
Speculator 1 Twil1ght

I agree that it isn’t ideal if not everyone gets a chance to call out a bluff. However, I think 50% is probably a good enough compromise in practice. Everyone will be on the same footing. And you would still be taking a risk trying a bluff because you don’t know who will get to the thread while waiting for that 50% pass consent.

Also, for the last point about F3, maybe we can switch to unanimous at some threshold, like 5 or so remaining players. The game is going to be quicker at that point anyway.

I hadn’t thought about how it affects the Ambassador and Inquisitor. Actually I suppose it affects other cards like Captain and Assassin too since there are more cards for blocking them.

But just to point out, the official expansion actually gave 2 extra of each original card and 5 of the new Inquisitor to allow for the deck to be increased for more players. So I think that would also be fine.

Or maybe that 50% we use is established at the start and just stays the same. So if there are 12 players, we use 6 passes throughout the game. Thus it gradually works its way to unanimous at 6 players left.
