[MISC] Coup Thread A - Solic Wins! (1/5)

Side note, there is a “Duke” card but there is no King or President card!? Blasphemy!

<_< they’re uhh… the king is sick of course

Oh, that’s cool. You’re pardoned for now.

Alright to accommodate for more players, we’re gonna add more cards. Here are the list of cards we can add, from the G54 expansion and 3 other Kickstarter cards.

(Also I just realized Graverobber was from G54 and not Kickstarter lul)

Imma need everyone to pick 3 cards that are their favorite or what they think would be the most balanced. Keep in mind we can modify the chosen ones if they’re a little unbalanced.

Card Name Ability Block
Jester Take 1 card from Court and 1 from a target. Return any 1 card to court and target. Blocks Jester and Stealing
Bureaucrat Take 3 coins from Treasury, keep 2 and give 1 to another player. Blocks Foreign Aid
Socialist Take 1 card from all targets. Keep one card, then return 1 to all targets. Blocks Stealing
Director Draw 2 cards from Court, return any 2 cards to the Court. X
Newscaster Pay 1 coin to take 3 cards from the Court, then return any 3 cards to the Court. X
Producer Take 1 card from Court and 1 from any target (target’s choice). Return any 1 card to court and target. Blocks Producer
Reporter Take one coin from Treasury and draw 1 card from the Court, then return any card to Court. X
Writer Draw 1 card from the Court, then if desired, pay 1 coin to draw another. Return same number of cards to Court. X
Banker Take 3 coins from Treasury. X
Capitalist Take 4 coins from Treasury. All other players can then claim to be Capitalist. Following the resolution of any challenges, pay 1 coin. X
Farmer Take 3 coins from Treasury, keep 2 and give 1 to another player. X
Speculator Take up to 5 coins from Treasury to double your current coins. If a challenge is successful, challenger receives all of your initial coins. X
Spy Take 1 coin from Treasury, then take a second action of the player’s choice. If the player has 10 coins after the first action, the second action must be a Coup. X
Crime Boss Player selects 1 target. The target can pay 2 coins to player to end player’s turn. Otherwise, player pays 5 coins, and target loses 1 influence. X
General Pay 5 coins to make all other targets lose 1 influence. Blocked by General
Guerrilla Pay 4 coins to Treasury to make a target lose 1 influence. Blocked by Geurrilla
Judge Give 3 coins to a target, forcing them to lose a life. If successfully countered or challenged, target keeps the 3 coins. Blocked by Judge
Mercenary Pay 3 coins to place Disappear token on a chosen target. The target loses 1 influence after their next turn. Blocked by Mercenary
Communist Steal up to 3 coins from the wealthiest target, giving them to the poorest player. Blocked by Communist
Customs Officer Take the 2 Tax tokens. Keep 1, and place the other on a Role card. All other players must pay 1 coin each time they claim that role. X
Foreign Consular Take the 2 Treaty tokens. Keep 1, then give the other to another player of your choice. These two players become allies, and cannot target one another, even by Coup. X
Intellectual Following a loss of influence, Intellectual takes 5 coins from Treasury. Successful challenge results in loss of another influence. Unsuccessful challenge results in challenger losing 1 influence. X
Lawyer Claim all the coins of a player who is eliminated from the game. X
Missionary Following a loss of influence (except by Coup), Missionary takes 1 card from Court. Successful challenge results in loss of second influence. Unsuccessful challenge results in challenger losing 1 influence. X
Peace Keeper Take 1 coin and the Peacekeeper token. Holder of this token cannot be targeted except by Coup. X
Politician Steal up to 2 coins from a chosen target. Blocked by Politician
Priest All other players must give Priest 1 coin (if able). Blocked by Priest
Protestor Pay 2 coins, select a target. Any other player may then pay 3 coins to force the target to lose 1 influence. Blocked by Protestor

Because haha Jester go brrr

I think this would be interesting because you can try to use that 1 coin to discourage someone from calling a bluff/create alliances.

This just gets funnier the more players there are.

I’ll join if we reach 25 players

is life supposed to be influence?

doesn’t this happen anyway

i mean I just quickly copy pasta’d these roles from G54 I never said they would 100% balanced or clear

Especially if playerlist would be big, the game may take forever if there was no efficient way to get coins.

I think imm /out due to realizing imma be busy the next two weeks

Alright that’s fine

I have no idea what i’m doing
should i read the op

Nah, who does that anyways. :upside_down_face:

PKR's views on available choices

Sounds fun

Seems like a bit of a lower powered duke but is good for politicing with other players.

Oh I really like this one.

This is literally just ambassador, right?

Bit more of a powerful ambassador but with an additional cost, I sorta like it?

Basically a better version of normal inquisitor. I like it.

Bit better than a default action but seems boring.

Boring, less powerful.

Meh. Literally Duke. But less good

This is cool. Different at least.

Literally Bureaucrat

Oh this seems fun as heck just because of the challenge incentive it provides. Like it.

Bonus action so you can do things a turn, seems alright.

That sounds fun. More expensive assassin but with counter via money instead of a card so takes risk away a bit for assassination (Or Crime Bossing basically)

Probably a bit too powerful since then it’s Generals v Generals at end game probably.

Coup but can be stopped and has a lower price. Not bad.

:man_shrugging: Assassin but with more downsides since you give the coins to an opponent instead of putting it in the treasury. Less risk than assassin though.

I like the idea of a delayed kill but it just feels like assassin (again) but kinda less interesting?

Since it can be countered only by another merc and so by having one to use, it reduces the amount of things which can counter it. Whereas having an assassin doesn’t mean there’s less Contessa-s

Fun since you can choose how many and kinda use it to your advantage like after couping.

This is fun as heck sounding. It kinda changes the game up and adds another layer.

Nice. Does it disable in final 2?

Love this a lot.

Graverobber but not sharing = meh.
Also one time vs permanent effect?

If you lose an influence and you reveal Missionary, is that how this activates? Or do you claim your remaining card is a missionary to make it work? Either way it seems ok? But like one of them is better than the other ofc. (Seems a bit plain)

Literally just the captain.

Has a bit more applicability than Captain power. I kinda like it? But there’s such a thing as too much financial control and duke being able to block financial aid already means that making people pay coins to the priest (especially with this many players) might be a bit OP.

This is good

PKR’s top 3: Protestor, Socialist, Customs Officer.

If we end up having priest and anyone but me is it, I’m going to target that player until one of us is dead.
