My 1-Shot FM Idea

Ok well what could I do to make it more “fun” and less “Unfun”?

Oh man, that is just mean!

Like, it made me laugh, so I want to “like” it. But it’s so mean, that I feel bad about giving it a heart.

I think this setup can be saved.

However I have no clue what the actual hell I’m reading.

I feel like at this point just make it a rolemadness game using all the roles in the MU database or whatever peipke use for those games

serious question
is this balanced in any way

A lot of the roles are pretty low powered so it’s usually not too bad I don’t think

Also WOTM

what if i don’t have wotm
is it balance if i let random.org do it
and if it isn’t is there a database/set of roles i can do that for

What I’ve seen done in some games is to group the roles by power level, then rand within a grouping. So like if there are 3 power levels A, B, and C (A the strongest), then rand 1 within A, 2 within B, and the rest within C as just an example. If there are certain combinations that are OP, then maybe specifically prevent those (like if x is randed from A, then don’t allow y from B).

just call it bastard so you don’t have to bother with balance and instead focus on ‘fun’

I’m not a reviewer but here is my advice if I wanted to really host this setup for some reason
Gaining an entirely useless 1-shot is also not fun and incredibly swingy in itself so I’d start by removing them. Remove stuff like this

You could in theory make scum never manage to get alignment cop ect.
But that’s harder to balance than just outright having no PR that is entirely useless to one side and AI cops suck anyway

My second recommendation would be to balance the impact chance of the PRs
I personally make a mental note in my head the impact of what PRs can do in terms of overall performance
ect. Watcher = 4/5 for Town, Poisoner = 2/5 for Town
This will be harder to do because both sides can roll the same PRs
So a Poisoner could be a 3/5 for scum but 2/5 for town ect.

This will inevitably lead to mechanical deduction through things like confirmable PRs

‘My ability was removed from me, both KyoDaz & Gaga are confirmed vanillaizer, therefore they can’t be on the same mafia team!’

ect.

Unfortunately this can’t be remedied by ‘oh just make PRs unique’ because then this is an open setup with duplicate claim mechanical deduction
Which is worse than confirmable mechanical PRs

But just balancing the overall PR power seems relatively difficult considering they can both roll it but it’s definitely possible
This was one of the things I ran into with WoW:BfA, because both sides can roll the same classes
Sub-classes made this a bit easier to balance
But outright one-shots with no other alternative is why I’d recommend designing something else
You can take this if you find it useful and try to design it if you’re incredibly passionate about it but I’d just suggest looking at something else to design
