New attempt at CW rework

Here is my most recent attempt at a CW rework, this time with an elemental theme. Fire ward is the new main ability, whose purpose is to make it easier to find scum if they attempt to visit his target.

Night ability 1: Ice Ward
Select a player. Only Support, Investigative, and Killer roles will be able to visit them. (Cult leader can visit the player if they are trying to eradicate but not if they are trying to convert). Unlimited uses.

Night ability 2: Mirror Spell - Select a player. They will use their night ability with themselves along with whoever they target. They will not be notified. 3 uses. (So if your target heals someone else they will heal themselves as well, if they attack someone else they will attack themselves, etc. Doesn’t give the player any kind of feedback, so investigators will not get double results, etc.)

I know I’m in the competition against you…
But… You do know that this is extremely confirmable and that a problem is that scum need to have room to claim, not be able to be fully countered, right?
The fire part is the part I have a problem with at this time. As it’s a use ability, essentially “Confirm there’s a CW in game”. People can abuse the killee/occupier visit with a CW claim to find a 100% success rate of true vs false

In fact analysing everything, for how it could be…
The day ability is pretty powerful in itself and uber confirmable too. Target sheriff/paladin. Have someone attempt to occupy = Confirmed early game
The night ability of fire is again confirmable by the occupiers or redirectors making it very confirmable.
I do like that you made ice ward limited use though. It’s an interesting idea…

I’d like to know where you was going with this. I don’t mean any offence btw and good job for actually attempting to create something for a suggestion as there are many people who haven’t. But trying to offer advice @psychoneirik and see things from your perspective

Advice:

  1. CW is support, yes. Which, considering Physician already protects others means CW should probably be empowering others. I don’t see how it empowers that much.
  2. Don’t make it too confirmable. I know it needs to have some way to be confirmable with a lot of hard work around it. But that is with thinking outside the box.

I was trying to make a support that helps investigators by giving them extra leads when checking someone who is “burned”. Maybe if I change Fire ward to only affect killer and special classes it would make CW less confirmable?

Also, the fire wall ability won’t notify the player if they are burned, so the only way CW could confirm themselves would be if a butler/drunk visits someone and then the next day someone else visits them to check if they were burned. Basically to confirm the CW you need an extreme amount of teamwork and at least 3 days.

It makes it less confirmable. But the problem still is that it’s pretty confirmable.

Also… Killer or Special would normally mean 2 things:

  1. The person is now dead (Killers kill almost all the time with exception of Knight)
  2. The person is now converted, vote them.

If anything this makes it far too much of a hardcounter to scum. I understand you’re trying to empower investigative a bit with this. However I also disagree with one big thing… Which is that scum will be caught by this. As almost everyone will die or be converted when visited by these things above. It’s a bigger hard counter to NK while also being a factional hard counter for conversions

Apart from that problem, we have another barrier. What priority order would the fire be? Would it happen near the start of the night or much later in the resolving if you could pick?

What if I make it so CW cant tell if his fire ward worked? That way he can’t find converts.

As for priority, I think it should happen right at the end, so people cant find burned players the same night they become burned. Also I removed the day ability since now that you mentioned it I agree it could make him confirmable.

He’s a mastermind get em

He’s a hunter who doesn’t visit but is on fire get him.

Okay. I am very glad that you at least agree with what I would say about the priority. As I was gonna say end of night

The problem I still have is… .

  1. CW whispers king / Prince and says who they are gonna fire
  2. CW does night fire
  3. Prince / King whispers claimants of Knight or Hunter to visit the player CW said about
  4. Claimants visit. If lying, they’ll be caught as won’t come as burned. If telling truth and they’re alive, likely means they’re knight, hunter or a converter still bringing a huge scare for scum. Essentially getting rid of knight and hunter claim (As well as CW!)
  5. Wait day
  6. Anyone visits = Confirmed CW or Confirmed Scum

Hunter doesn’t actually visit if I remeber correctly. Even a wolf

True. So it would just get rid of Knight claims in full and scum wouldn’t normally claim Hunter anyway. Plus it’d get rid of CW claims.

What would you expect scum to claim?

TBH this doesn’t feel like support it feels like investigative

TBH whenever I am a NK

I claim hunter and it usually gets me far enough If no one ccs my claim

Scum can always try to predict who is going to be fire warded before they attack/convert. What I wanted to achieve with this ability was to “protect” outed players. While you wont be protecting them directly like a heal or current CW’s magic barrier scum will think twice before going for an important role while a CW is alive.

So essentially this class discourages scum to do things which would otherwise be very beneficial to them, instead making it so that their impact on the game is minimal with a potential CW alive. As even if people die, there can always be a CW. It essentially just stops scum from being able to effectively do their jobs (No offence)
Also this ability now seems like it encourages people to out early which is a very counter intuitive thing as this one can if in game can make it easily BD victory. If not, scum victory since people will out, hoping.
It’s far too swingy imo

Also the only person who can effectively kill cw guarded targets are alch…

The main problem with this is it’s too specific at what it does. It outs killer special classes only, and only if they visit. The only ones that fall under that category are nks, mm, assassin, CL, and knight. So for an infinite use ability, you are getting very specific information about almost entirely evil classes.

This is especially a better version of princess new WoW but also it gets infinite uses.

Edit: I want to add two other problems with this:

First, the ability is very confusing. I’m not even sure if I fully understand it. All abilities typically function very simply so it’s easy to understand, but this seems to have a full paragraph just to understand what it does.

Second, it’s been covered already, but this ability doesn’t support at all. You’re right that it supports investigative abilities, but two investigators can also “support” each other.

When is this damn contest going to end? All the threads and suggested topics are getting clogged by these.
