The curse and the ??? were two separate things, let me elaborate.

The curse was a death curse that I used elsewhere, it told me I was gonna die otherwise.

The ??? was a reward I got from “pleasing the gods” by using the curse.

We don’t know how many Town we have. Ergo, any town death could spell the end. I know I’m town so I have to put myself over others.
