I disagree with this. If he claims to have done it but there isnāt sufficient evidence to prove he did then he shouldnāt be punished off of a confession
I also wouldnāt use it as proof, personally. But I do believe he did it intentionally.

Itās mostly for consistency; and itād be incredibly unfair if the guilty party gets punished equally/used their confession against them when we should be actively encouraging a confession
