hot take:

hedge isn’t AI in the slightest

counterpoint: you’re wrong, but it’s not nearly as AI as people think it is and for some players it just isn’t AI at all

also context

like I think hedge is >rand V so I guess you’re right

wouldn’t go that far

some people are super noncommittal as wolves

take: hedging’s AI-ness depends on context + your other reads

a well-tended town garden is likely to have a mix of hedges and trees (in this case trees are strongā„¢ readsā„¢)

whereas a garden that’s just made entirely of hedges is more likely to come from scum

haha they said the word

joytree inside

I feel like town is less likely to commit to a read since they have no TMI. At least that’s the case for me

so there’s always a large possibility of being wrong as town

it depends a lot on how its done

skepticism isnt inherently wolfy

like isn’t it wolfier to be confident someone is a wolf? how could you possibly know (unless they’re basically openwolfing)

there’s also, like, you can have a read that’s not TMI-based and not totally confident, but also isn’t a hedge

this obviously varies by player but in my experience ā€˜so-and-so has X in favor of them being town, but Y in favor of them being scum, but overall I think X is more compelling for this reason’ is a villagery way of expressing uncertainty whereas ā€˜so-and-so could be a wolf, or a townie. or a scumneut. I don’t really know and I’m not interested in finding out.’ is more likely to come from scum.

ā€œx is a neutā€ only comes from wolves because townies dont neut hunt :wowee:

ok I thought this was defined as hedge. this is the kind of read that makes sense to me. cuz if you go through an ISO and only point out the wolfy or townie things someone is doing and completely ignore the other that’s sus af

townies who aren’t sure of a read are also more likely to follow up on it and try to sort out their target’s alignment, because they actually care about the answer

whereas wolves who are hedging are less likely to do that

Somewhat correct, but only for our site
It’s just that our site has ā€œanti town play is NAIā€ meta bullshit

being anti-town is pro-town

i have evidence for this

that one time i single handedly won a game for town as town because i was antitown
