Sharing Leads Anonymously

Problem?

I feel like ever since the introduction of Little Birds, BD’s win rate has taken a hit. I would imagine this is mainly due to the fact that, without the whisper meta, it’s pretty difficult for investigatives to coordinate with other BD without outting themselves. I certainly don’t like the idea of open claim meta becoming dominant.

Solution?

It seems like the most straightforward solution is to provide BD with some mechanism to share information anonymously (their class may be displayed but not their number).

Currently, the Mystic can do this through telepathy and the prince can technically do it by asking their jailed player to relay info, but the mystic is not a required class and is capped at 1 per match and the prince method is pretty roundabout. Also both of these methods face the same big problem that king whisper meta had, they rely very heavily upon the skill of just one player.

The lightest touch solution would be to simply require a mystic in every game as it used to be. This way, each game would have a built-in mechanism for investigatives to share their important leads without outting themselves. Downside is that less experienced players may not fill the information sharing role very well.

Alternatively, a more radical solution that I could imagine is some sort of notice board that operates through a night ability allowing investigatives to anonymously post feedback results from one past night of their choosing. This solution would obviously have pretty far reaching implicaitons which I certainly have not thought through completely.

What do you think? Is anonymous information sharing between BD even a problem that needs solving? If it is, what do you think is the best solution?

Well either you hard confirm leads

Or you have evils spamming it and make it useless

It’s going to take a hit

It’s like starting to do Pull ups, your gonna hate life at first
Then it becomes easier.

Bd win rate will increase, but how quickly/slowly should be what worries you.

Solution. Sometimes out yourselves and balance the game under the assumption that this will happen

Maybe you could have it operate similarly to telepathy, just written at night and displayed at the start of the day. Rather than the system recreating the feedback from a past night, the player would have a limited set of characters to write a message. Evils would have an equivalent ability, just like apostle and illusionist can use telepathy. Maybe seeker/marshall have the power. However, using this ability to mislead would have the effect of outting the existence of one of those evil classes.

I dont think that giving evils the power to post would make it useless, just like telepathy isnt made useless by apostle.

if everyone can use it then what’s the point of telepathy?

Evils would spam it every night and BD would have to yolo which leads where genuine, or make people out themselves for their lead to be followed

Yeah I would be claiming every night to have found a scum as scum.

Why lol

Open claim != Mass claim

Absolutely not lol.

It defeats the purpose of the game IMO.

Exactly

Open claims are way better than whispers even if it’s massclaims either way

But you can have open-claiming be the norm without an early-game massclaim meta

Plus conversion makes an early game massclaim a losing strategy

the CW’s can protect a sheriff or 2. They can’t save everyone

look at that knight claim and prince

Let me convert that knight then frenzy

True, but without an anonymous communication mechanism, it leads to a meta where investigatives will stay quiet until they are sure they’ve found an evil. This shifts the game towards luck because it’s basically chance if that sure-thing lead comes N1 or N6.

With anonymous communication, it becomes worth it to share less than 100% leads, such as finding someone k/o or an obs seeing a suspicious visit. With more leads that are non-conclusive being shared, it opens the game up to less chance and more strategizing.

This could easily be limited by making it an uncommon evil ability; e.g. giving it only to marshall and a single use as a seeker while having it more common among BD. This would mean that you have reason to suspect a message more likely comes from a BD than an evil.

But then you hard confirm the lead

Even without getting into how just because you don’t have hard evidence doesn’t make it random you do realize that this is the opposite part of having easy gamesolves unless it is setup in such a way that it is useless

Not necessarily. It’s not binary between hard-confirming leads and evils spamming every night. You could design the ability such that there’s a 60% chance the message came from BD and a 40% chance that it came from evil.
