The Court Wizard - A Unique Role

The current CW abilities - and even Ice Ward, back when it was in the game - both don’t give feedback and are more or less random luck. Hopefully this would change that.

Concept: Give CW something more or less unique to him, while still letting him help out the rest of his faction.

Passive Abilities:
Caster: Your abilities do not count as visits.

Day Abilities:
Study Notes: Select a dead player to examine. You will be able to use Channel Spell from them. Does not work on any Special or Killer classes. Infinite Charges.

Night Abilities:
Channel Spell: Use a dead player’s ability. May only be done once per dead player, only be used after Study Notes was used on that player, and only if that player had charges remaining on their ability. Infinite Charges. (Obviously, “griefing” abilities like Mind Warp or Frame should be unusable. Defiled and Facelifted corpses have their abilities fail - maybe the CW is said to have been occupied, or their charges are both depleted. I’m not sure if the engine can actually do this sort of thing, and it’s probably massively overpowered anyway.)

and either

Whirlwind: Any players targeting your target player will instead target themselves. You can target yourself with this ability. You may not target the King. Does not affect occupy-immune targets. 2 Charges. (If a death results from this, the CW’s death note will be used. This lets the CW prevent visits or save people from them, without getting some random other guy killed in the process - but also disrupts investigations entirely. A bit like a really annoying Knight.)

or

Ice Ward: Nobody will be able to visit your target tonight. You can target yourself, but not the King. 3 charges. (Or, again, a one-day cooldown. It could also just give death immunity, with Clear Mind taking up the other half of the visit protection - I’d recommend Whirlwind, but this is still an option.)

Regarding Sage:

His abilities are currently powerful enough when he’s working with the Assassin - being able to deny healing or guards either indirectly or outright makes him one of the more useful converts, depending on the situation. I’d leave him with Tornado instead of Whirlwind - both effective in their own way.

Also, yes, I’m aware that this is enough of a rehaul that the CW feels almost like an entirely new class, but that didn’t really stop the devs before. Hopefully it would make CW feel more ‘important’, being able to take on a dead man’s role for a night - Investigate someone suspicious, or Heal a single case of poison. This probably also mean he has to be Unique again.

I overall like the idea, however I don’t like it for court wizard.

They stated they want court wizard to stay a support character, and these abilities make him seem more like a special. I think it would be super interesting as a neutral role.

Court wizard being unique automatically makes me say no before reading the abilities

If the abilities are that powerfull. Tone them down a little bit.

Scum rely on using this as a claim

Good scum, or scum that die anyway because “CW doesn’t matter lol”?

Doesn’t matter

IF EVERY CLASS WAS CONFIRMABLE

BYE ASSASIN BYE MM BY CL

BYE NK

THERES NO POINT IN THIS GAME

The only solution to too many classes being confirmable… is to increase the amount of unconfirmable classes to the point that you need them to hold majority. If day 2 you can just start executing everyone who claims the 3 classes that can’t be confirmed, there isn’t much point in the game… people who have abilities that do things are just safe distractions…

right now we’ve got knight, princess, phys and sheriff/pali, as our solid fake claimables (though princess isn’t exactly perfect, it does require at least a bit of educated guesses for say CL or NKs, but it sticks for now).

Sheriff/pali actually do come redundant if you do “everyone claim early and we got this”. Yeah the converted guy can delay getting caught with his abilities… until he gets promoted to assasain/CL.

If no classes were confirmable, there wouldn’t be any abilities either. It’d just be the original Mafia game, and that’s a luck simulator. Every class has some way to prove themselves, but every class usually can also die or be converted very easily. CW isn’t ever claimed anyway because he’s not K/O or S/I.

Sorry mate king isn’t confirmable.
Sheriff isn’t confirmable
Paladin isn’t confirmable
Princess isn’t confirmable
Noble is semi confirmable

Mystic is unclaimable
Others

Which is why… we don’t make cw confirnsble

King, the best MM claim. XD

Ik it i also got this strat.
Great strat claim prince in jail…

Noble is just confirmable. Not semi confirmable.

possesor=semi
Apostle =noble
Aristocrat=noble

I won my first possesor game today

Hey noble. Make 6 vote for 9.

Hey I already used my day ability

I have never let a noble get by if he doesn’t use that ability. It’s only useful late game and for confirming Noble. It’s definitely something Possessor can use to slip through every once in a while, but just being able to simulate maid spy does not make the role claimable.

Aristocrat

Done

I think it would be super interesting as a neutral role.

I agree!

Goal?

survive lol

it’d be basically an alch in the sense it has killing and support abilities, although it could have anything, including investigative powers

We don’t neee another alch… kingmakers should be avoided
