but its because he doesnt want to die so hes trying to make himself likable to town, an understandable move.
and then when that doesnt work he becomes honest
and its not that hes lying now to make himself likable to town as thats not how people go about that in my experience. they either stack lies on lies on lies, or they lie once maybe twice and then tell the truth. never telling the truth and then lying.
