Town of Salem has ISO Now

What do you think is the current mechanics/social ratio?

i don’t think they’d even see a dichotomy between mechanics and social, and to be frank i think such a dichotomy is a misleading one

I know when I first joined ToL this was a feature that I really wanted (as I’ve mentioned a few times), but I’ve played enough Avalon with my dorm that possibly I don’t count as a social deduction newbie? I don’t think it’s super transferrable, since in-person games rely a lot more on cues like tone of voice and body language which I suck at, but I do acknowledge that technically I wouldn’t meet that criterion.

Imo it’s around 80/20 for newbies
For vets its around 70/30 or even 60/40. But def not lower.

ISO would be a great feature… for a social heavy game.

Priestess if u had to give a split of gameplay wise not how you like to play it wise. How much of TOL is social and how much of it is mechanical
Now the same thing with FOL, Mafia, FM, and ONUW. I just want to see how u see it

false dichotomy alert
newbies would not see a massive distinction like you do

Throne of Lies is a 3D online multiplayer game where up to 16 players use their social deduction skills in a modern take on tabletop games like Werewolf/Mafia and set during a time of medieval conflict within a fantasy realm.

The unique Day/Night cycle allows unique encounters with different strategies per phase. During the day, players discuss their findings and accuse players of treason. At night, players use their abilities to occupy, spy on, conspire against and even kill the opposing players. In a game of minority vs majority and where wit is more important than abilities, the good players will accuse and execute the guilty of treason, while the bad guys will manipulate others to turn the good guys against themselves!

While Cult and Unseen players know their allies, members of the Blue Dragon must be suspicious of every other player to ensure that they don’t fall to an evil plot. Even the King is suspect in Throne of Lies , and the enemy’s ability to convert other players to their side means that allegiances are always shifting.

The game concludes when the Blue Dragon faction has disposed of all hostile threats against the kingdom or their enemies have seized control of the Throne of Lies !

it took quite a few plays before i gained an internal distinction between the actions of the seer and the actions of the lynch. they seemed to be just… things.

You thinking it isn’t is basically just you

ToL has great mechanics. That’s why its not needed to do social reads. It’s helping you, yes. But it’s not necessary.

Interesting word choice

Especially because things like ToS are in the exact same boat

Social skills are helpful, but not strictly necessary

Plenty of things aren’t necessary, but that doesn’t mean we ought to make them intentionally more difficult.

Logs are mech info.
Last one is a social inconsistency, which is a social lead.

ToS has similiar mechanical indepth? :eyes:
Call me when you played ToL again.

for the record, what’s the bar for what counts as a newbie?

think about cop13, the platonic conception of a vanilla supoosedly all-social mafia game
may i remind you that whole setup is based around everybody pretending to be the one non-vanilla role in the game
the mechanics and the social aspect are one and the same

I’d say
Less than 100 matches: brand new.
Less than 100 hours: newbie

i hate to say it but he’s almost right
tol roles really are just tos roles but with more abilities strapped on, generally
there are exceptions
but on most nights Princess is just a weaker Investigator, for example
