Undead Faction Idea

Inspired by Tormental’s post.

Game Starts with a Necromancer and an Apprentice.

Necromancer

Undead Special

Passive: Call the Darkness: You may speak with your dead allies at night, and you can hear them during the day.

Passive: Soul Shield: If you would be killed, occupied, or redirected, the oldest other Undead will suffer those effects instead.

Day Ability: Taint: Your target will die start bleeding. If they die from this, they will become an Undead of their type, excluding Apprentice. 4 uses.

Night Ability: Reanimate: Turn a dead person into an Undead of the same type, excluding Apprentice. You may not use this on anyone who has already won the game, or a Death Knight. Infinite uses. You may only have up to 3 other Undead, and may not have 2 Undead Killers.

Night Ability: Ritual: All Undead players lose the Undead passive. 1 use. This ability will be announced.

Apprentice

Undead Killer

Passive: Eternal Servitude: When you die you will immediately become a Revenant.

Night Ability: Dark Sacrifice: Kill a player. Unlimited uses.

Revenant

Undead Killer

Passive: Undead: You may not be targeted at night, and cannot speak or vote with living players during the day, and you may speak to the dead.

Night Ability: Dark Sacrifice: Kill a player. Unlimited uses.

Night Ability: Death Ward: Kill all players that visit the Necromancer. Unlimited uses. 1 day cool down.

Phantom

Undead Offensive

Passive: Undead: You may not be targeted at night, and cannot speak or vote with living players during the day, and you may speak to the dead.

Passive: Undying Loyalty: Cannot be occupied or redirected.

Night Ability: Haunt: Occupy a player. Unlimited uses.

Night Ability: Scare: Kill a player and occupy everyone visiting them. Bypasses Immunity. 1 use.

Spirit

Undead Social

Passive: Undead: You may not be targeted at night, and cannot speak or vote with living players during the day, and you may speak to the dead.

Day Ability: Tamper: You can vote today. It will appear as if target player is doing it. Unlimited uses. Can’t be used while using Possess.

Night Ability: Possess: Identical to Possessor’s, but you lose the Undead passive. 1 use.

Night Ability: Ghostly Whispers: Hear all whispers to and from target player tomorrow. Unlimited uses.

Banshee

Undead Support

Passive: Undead: You may not be targeted at night, and cannot speak or vote with living players during the day, and you may speak to the dead.

Night Ability: Wail: Everyone will be prevented from visiting target player. 4 uses.

Night Ability: Shriek: Kill target player. 1 use.

Ghoul

Undead Investigative

Passive: Undead: You may not be targeted at night, and cannot speak or vote with living players during the day, and you may speak to the dead.

Night Ability: Hidden Sight: Discover a player’s class. Unlimited uses.

Night Ability: Search: See who a player visits, and who they follow. Unlimited uses.

Note: Reanimated King is for when you reanimate the King. Not for the Evil King.

Counter Class:

Paladin

Blue Dragon Investigative

Night Ability: Test Faith: Determine if a player is Cult or Undead. Unlimited uses.

Night Ability: Smite: Prevent all visits from the Cult and Undead to your target, and kill any Cult or Undead who try 3 uses.

Promotion: Oldest Undead without the Undead passive (ironic) will become the Necromancer on his death. Generally just the Apprentice, and any Spirits, although any Undead class can with the use of Ritual.

I think the Paladin should still be the soft counter to the Undead, as both the Cult and Undead are unholy, and thus something the Paladin has come to smite. However, he would need some reworking, or maybe a day ability that’s like:

Sanctify: (D) (1)
If this is an Undead Game, make Smite become unlimited. You will not be able to use abilities tonight.

Also what about an Undead Investigative?

Will this notify your target? If it does then make it one night, or make it bypass night immunity.

Rename this. Physician already has an ability called reanimate. Also, does this work on conversion immune classes?

This should bypass occupy immunity.

This should work the same as Possessor’s possess.

Remove this. Evil factions don’t need soft counters. They’re boring to play and only affect the faction they are hunting, which makes them useless once everyone in the enemy faction is dead.

Not always. Possessor actually stands a chance. And that doesn’t change my other points. Soft counters are usually boring to play. Evil factions shouldn’t need a soft counter.

I said usually, and it’s not that I disagree with your point. But I would rather have the Paladin also be done to find Undead, so that when a Paladin spawns, there’s multiple factions they could be fighting against. And it also buffs Cult. Still a problem with Sheriff though.

Yes. Note that Reanimate states you can’t have two killers.

Added Ghoul, although I made some changes.

Also I made a Paladin Rework.

However, I feel like the Seek ability should be renamed, as it conflicts with the Cult class Seeker.

Okay, and I like Paladin being a soft counter to two classes, because the main problem with soft counters is that there’s nothing for you to do once the evil faction is dead like @RHCube said, but usually I find there’s something for them to do the majority of the game. But by being a counter to multiple classes, this means there’s still a mystery on who can be targetted. I would rather prefer that Test Faith and Smite are like regular, with Unlimited for Test and 2 uses for Smite, and that Sanctify can only be used after a player has died, which would give unlimited uses for Smite if an Undead Game, because then there’s some mystery and Paladins wouldn’t be able to spam Sanctify on the first day.

This should determine your target’s class instead.

Remove this.

Make this unlimited.

Change it to this: Smite(3 uses): No one will be able to visit your target. You will kill everyone who tries. Can not target yourself.

Paladin becomes OP against Cult, but oh well

This should work on everyone. This suffers from the same problem as before, it becomes useless once the cult/undead are dead. There’s no risk to it since it only works on evils.
