flavor is low quality because I started it late
After their success the previous day, the cat pirates were in high spirits. Rather than the tense fighting of the previous day, they seemed almost cheerful. Still, they knew that they couldn’t afford to idle the day away celebrating. They had to ensure that they kept up pressure on the dog pirates.
With that in mind, they turned to one of their number. “Avast, I think it’s you!” shouted one of them.
“That’s not what ‘avast’ means!” said another. “It’s basically synonymous–”
“That’s not the point!” said the first one. “The point is that he spent all of yesterday trying to duel anyone who got close to Moleland! And what was Moleland? A dog!”
The pirates shouted in agreement. All of them crowded around their target – a young pirate named Gorta – and shoved him towards the plank.
“Please, I’m begging you!” he said. “I’m innocent!” He dug in his paws and refused to walk the plank.
“That’s proof of your guilt!” said another. “You wouldn’t be resisting so much if you were innocent.” They charged at Gorta and shoved him off the plank.
Yet as Gorta fell into the water, they noticed the same thing that they had noticed with Ash. He was recoiling from the water, which soaked his fur, pinning it to his skin. As they watched him flailing, they began to wonder–
–had they made a mistake?

The cat pirate stared at the note in front of him. Signed by another member of the crew, it asked him to meet them on the deck that night. Yet given that they were in the middle of a conflict with invading dogs, he didn’t trust it. Still, what was the worst that could happen? He was a strong cat pirate, one of the strongest swordsmen they had. Especially with one dog pirate having already been defeated, he would easily be able to overcome a threat.
Just as he expected, when he arrived above deck, there was a dog pirate waiting for him. He drew his cutlass, but the dog pirate only laughed at him.
“Do you really think I want to fight you?” he said. “I want to negotiate.” He gestured at a table setting. “Come, sit down.”
The cat pirate warily perched on the bench. The dog pirate took out a cask of wine and poured each of them a bowl of wine. Lapping up his wine, he gestured at the cat pirate to take some as well. The cat pirate hesitated for a moment – but he had just seen the dog pirate drink some. Surely the dog pirate wasn’t foolish enough to poison his own wine? The dogs were their enemy, yes, but that didn’t mean they were suicidal.
The two of them began to talk, yet as they did so, the cat pirate felt himself growing woozy. The deck of the ship seemed to twist sideways in front of him. “What’s happening?” he said.
The dog pirate laughed. “You know, not everything that’s poisonous to cats is poisonous to dogs,” he said.
