But Katze had been pushing Hippo all game, even when their previous slot jammed hippo as a townread

I get the case for distancing, but the only real scenarios where they makes sense is where both scum pick up the slack in pushing people other than those players and that Katze was going to ā€˜reevaluateā€™ during mylo to switch onto someone other than hippo

Despite having a decent reason to go onto eevee assuming theyā€™re scum (many players see them as town, would likely have a sheep or two), they go onto katze. Could be them trying to cut losses and being unsure, but I doubt it
