and I think the narrative assumes the audience agrees with this but it seems kind of self-evidently false? and I could be wrong about what the narrative expects the audience’s perspective to be, like, this is in fact the perspective being associated with Henry Jekyll, who is not exactly being portrayed as entirely reasonable

themes like this don’t inherently have to be agreeable
It’s something the character believes and characters can have tragic flaws in their beliefs
I’m fairly sure Jekyll ultimately ends up dying for this reason
