Automated logbook posting - Boslof's strawpoll

Figured I’d crosspost Boslof’s strawpoll from the Discord over here so more of the community will see it and there will be somewhere to put discussion:

Thoughts?

Kinda disagree with this, sometimes in turbo you need to make your logs fast on the spot as scum because you need to counter some mechanical Infomation.

The only thing this benefits is BD IMO

I’d say it isn’t a balance change

So long as you can do it with Private notes too

this is the kinda shit I keep saying needs to be posted here aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Either way, definite no.

Makes fake wills much harder to maintain multiple of.

I think the most I’d accept is adding buttons to copy and paste, but I know Xblade doesn’t want people without the mechanical knowledge to Ctrl+C Ctrl+V to play the game. Turning a social aspect in the game into a mechanically different UI feels counter-intuitive, especially when the game is all about hiding your information. I feel it would be comparable to making a separate mechanic for copypasting chat logs: it would be impossible to fake them.

I am an absolute no, and have several reasons.

  1. it’s more complicated for evils, Normally you have to tweak your logs on the fly, normally evils can pull off last minute changes in a reasonable time gap. (IE it takes 3-20 seconds for people to copy and paste logs, it takes 10-30 seconds to modify and paste logs, so people won’t think twice on someone taking 15-20 seconds to paste a log), with a 1 button method. taking more than 5 seconds will be “sus”.

The second is a bit less because it’s inherant in the game and always will be in this sort of game but.

  1. It’s broadly announcing that pasting logs is something that should be done as often as humanly possible. Basically that’s sending a message that vote for class or whisper whomever or whatever form it takes should happen early and often.

I am completely onboard with Unseen//Cult able to share logs privately with each other at nighttime, or viewable in real-time like the Marshal’s snoop, except it will update during the night and end when graveyard starts

Honestly. Just increase the character limit

Not that I disagree, but why not just check the discord?

Because that takes the extra steps of logging on to Discord, navigating to the ToL server, opening the #news channel, and reading it - daily.

I’m not likely to start doing that for no or poor reasons.

I already use the internet every day - checking #official-tol-announcements here takes a half second. I rarely if ever log onto Discord.

Additionally, I highly doubt I am in the minority as far as “doesn’t log onto Discord daily” is concerned amongst internet users.

aye same boat here usually, though I do kind of have a needlessly complex system for viewing everything I don’t care about. a VPS running quassel core (basically an IRC client that my personal computers connect to), quassel then connects to a bitlbee (bitlbee is made to more or less work like an IRC server that connects other messengers. Bitlbee connects to twitter, facebook messenger, mastadon, steam, discord, skype and google hangouts. So I can rather quickly check my messages from all the places that I really don’t care to check at a glance lol

I thinks it’s perfect how it is. No buttons for automatic sharing of info, plz

On another subject,
I would like to see a stats page though (ie. how many games I’ve won and with whom, how many times I was converted and lost, ect)

lol sometimes I forget that not everyone has discord open bascially always :^)
so much of my stuff is on there though so I never have a good reason to close it, so news is a click away, and I know when there’s something posted there.
I wonder if it’s possible to post stuff on the forums that’s posted in news automatically though… if not, I may just start manually posting it in announcements assuming that’s all good with xblade/bos.

Edit: We already have a bot capable of the reverse on the discord, but it doesn’t seem like discord -> discourse is really a thing, so I guess manual is the way to go?

I don’t know if that’s possible, but I do know that the other way around is, and I often question why we don’t take advantage of that more often.

That being said, I would personally really appreciate a human bot doing the inverse if we choose to not pursue other solutions.

(the only downside is people may end up blaming you if you miss something, so)
