oh right

that was technically a game that technically happened

that game didnt happen

I know, game-that-must-not-be-named

but that’s what n was referring to when he said 10/12

I’ll include it in my analysis but I don’t expect it to give me any super useful insight into how to improve town play

Game did not happen
Shut

dang
was BotF II really that long ago

No it wasn’t
It was definitely after “ToL” FM

ToL FM ended before BotF II

lolMindmelds

I just skimmed the Completed category (which is also missing a few games)

Mindmelds are a fallacy
If you can follow another person’s progression given that point in thread then it’s possible that it’s AI
In real time scum can make an educated guess based on your perspective if you’re actively posting your thoughts

fallacies are a fallacy

well it’s rly important so add it
I just added it to the completed category

that’s what i did to arete in poisonous

a ton of intentional mindmelds and i pointed these out real-time during scumchat

That experience motivates that thought alongside general SoC stuff

mostly the common things that arete does

like anger at scumclaiming, saying wolves always lowpost, etc etc

Why did scum win:

  • Several members of the scumteam were miscleared early, allowing to be ritualed
  • Town was uncohesive and not really discussing things with each other in a way that made it harder to clear villagers/find wolves/actually get anything done

Why did scum win:

  • haha detonate machine go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  • More seriously: several villagers chose to use their KP on other villagers for relatively little reason. Additionally, several villagers were more-or-less not playing, which made it difficult to clear them

this was a town win so I’m not going to do a failure analysis

ditto

Why did scum win:

  • Excessive reliance on mechanics over social reads, even when those mechanics were part of an FPS rather than an actual claim, or were known to be unreliable
  • Village kept killing obvious villagers because of surface-level motivation reads, and/or because ‘they’re pushing people and I don’t like that’
  • A high number of replacements, most of whom hadn’t read the game thread, meant that very few people had any idea what was going on

Why did scum win:

  • The Neutral Killer was miscleared for bad reasons early on, when it should have been figure-out-able that the thing they were doing could come from scum
  • Early hero shots/hero lynches/etc. on obvious villagers rather than ANY OF THE OBVIOUS WOLVES LIKE ICI meant that by the time the one actually deep wolf in the game was the only one left, there was only one lynch with which to hit them
  • Several villagers either didn’t bother to play, or acted in an overtly wolfy manner, leading to them not being able to clear themselves and getting misvigged or misshot
  • Villagers did not carefully consider their votes in a LyLo scenario

Why did scum win:

  • P o w e r w o l f i n g
  • At least one obvious villager got mislynched out of basically-tinfoil
  • Rather than lynching the basically outed wolves, the villagers decided to save them for LyLo?? for some reason?? and lynch people who might be their partners (even though in that set-up it was beneficial numerically to frontload wolf flips)

Why did scum win:

  • haha claim printer go brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Why did scum win:

  • Several members of the scumteam were miscleared due to high rates of early bussing
  • The town PRs were obvious and died early, which among other things allowed scum an immediate 2 KPN

Why did scum win:

  • p o w e r w o l f i n g
  • Even though all the wolves were obvious, a few of the villagers (stares at Marshal) were wolfy for no reason in a way that made it easier to mislynch them
  • haha 5v12 setup printer goes brrrr

Why did scum win:

  • Several members of the wolfteam were miscleared early on, for either social or mechanical reasons
  • The mislynches that happened largely occurred because of things like ‘lynch all liars’ rather than actually looking at the motivation behind people’s actions

Why did scum win:

  • the most consensus villager decided to harass every other player in the game and ignore half of what they were saying, even when they had information that was highly relevant to the solve
  • More broadly, villagers had a hard time trusting each other in the early game, which led to critical information not being outed until it was almost too late

tl;dr

  • don’t misclear people
  • be villagery as a villager
  • work with other villagers as a villager
