[Class Suggestion] Priest and Heretic (Social)

So people really seem to like Maid Spy.

However, putting it on Noble muddies an otherwise streamlined class. By bringing back the Priest as a Social Class, this problem can be helped significantly by dedicating the Noble to vote control and the Priest to whispers and social protection, two areas no Social class truly covers in any meaningful way.

Here’s my basic idea for that Priest. Linked below, you will find my Noble suggestion, which no longer has Maid Spy. I think this has a lot of potential to fix a bunch of issues in one go, so please let me know what you think of both of these suggestions. Thanks.

Priest

Blue Dragon Social

Confessions (Passive) - Each night you will hear the confessions of a random player. They may speak to you, but you will not know who they are or be able to respond.
Devout (Passive) - Your voice may not be tampered with. (Icy Touch, Distract, Trollbox, etc. will not work on you)
Contrition (Day) - You choose who you will speak to for Confessions tonight - 2 uses
Anoint (Night)- Protect your target from any Social manipulation tomorrow (includes Decide Fate) - unlimited uses
Intercession (Night) - You may choose a player to intercede with, allowing you to hear all whispers they send or recieve until you select a different target (you may not target the King) - unlimited uses

Heretic

Unseen Social

Hearsay (Passive) - As long as you are alive, the Unseen will have a seperate chat tab with which to talk during the day.
Dogma (Passive) - Your voice may not be tampered with. (Icy Touch, Distract, Trollbox, etc. will not work on you.)
Impersonate (Day) - Your next whisper will secretly appear to be from your target, they will secretly be unable to send or recieve whispers until this occurs - 2 uses
Inquisition (Day) - Your target will confess to you tonight - 2 uses
Indulgence (Night)- Protect your target from any Social manipulation tomorrow (includes Decide Fate) - unlimited uses
Trespass (Night) - You may choose two players to spy on, allowing you to hear all whispers they send or recieve until you select a different target (you may not target the King) - unlimited uses

Points of potential improvement:
-Confessions is unique and cool, but not very effective at any single task in most scenarios. Contrition and Inquisition, however, are much more likely to be useful.
-Do you prefer unlimited, single-target whisper reading, or limited, multi-target whisper reading?
-Open to further suggestions/improvements. Don’t be afraid to be harsh!

What’s the thinking of hearing random confessions? What is it supposed to mean?

Confessions is interesting and thematically delicious.

I think the point of that is to share your night results with somebody anonymously without fear of getting killed by a converted Priest.

A player can tell the Priest that they found out 8 was immune the other night, or that they are planning to occupy someone tonight and the Priest could confirm that. There’s a lot of potential for Confession.

It’s a fun-sounding and interesting ability, if not particularly directed, and serves to allow the Priest to do more things than it would otherwise do.

If you dislike it, I’m always open to replacement suggestions; I just feel that the Priest and Heretic would be far too weak without it.

So is the suggestion at night a random player gets to talk to the priest in secret?

I really like the idea of the theme being around confession .

some other random ability ideas .

day ability 1 . sanctuary 2 uses
evil or neutral killers including possesed charachters may not visit you tonight.

night ability 1
hear confession : read a players journal.

Other thought would be a passsive ability that allowed people who visited the priest at night to confess during the next day .

So if you visited the priest you would get a message box pop up at the start of the next day that allowed you to type a confession that the priest would then see .

Problem is it identifies the class to evils too much or if only a priest ability, confirms the class

That’s less interactive and usually less useful, although it would be a great idea for some class based on trying to get information from somebody who dies without simply speaking to the dead.

Either way, the first challenge is definitely replacing Private Matter. Now that Noble is more vote-focused, which is good, I’m trying to make this the closest thing we have to a whisper-focused role without being Spy. But that means not being super easily confirmable.

I somehow missed that Private Matters is now a Psychic ability.

I still dislike it in general, but as Psychic is already capable of talking to the dead I don’t think it would be bad to move it to Priest. Of course, I’m still down for any replacement ideas.

What about having you chose a non-bd class as Priest and talk to whoever has that class. Obviously you would not know who you are talking to. I already have a class suggestion that uses that Idea but it would work great here. The converted version could talk to any non-unseen class.

Side note: I had originally considered the ability for the Heretic to, rather than only shut down someone’s whispers, also recieve them herself instead. I did eventually scrap this because it was getting overcomplicated and really powerful.

Made some definite improvements here, although this does somewhat overlap with the Illusionist now. That role needs some tweaking anyways though.

Still, open to replacements for Absolve/Mislead. (inb4 journal wipe too lol)
