The volcano beast Typhon was the greatest threat to Zeus’s reign other than the Giants. The direct spawn of Tartarus, Typhon rose from the depths of the earth and ravaged the earth, and challenged Olympus itself with his great height. He was a man to dwarf even the Titans and the Giants. Zeus challenged him, but against Typhon he had no chance. Typhon’s fingers curled into his divine vessel and ripped out every single tendon in his body, then threw him to the ground.
Hermes and the Centaur god Pan snuck past the snake-woman Delphine and returned Zeus’s tendons to him. Resurgent, Zeus summoned all of his godly strength and challenged Typhon once more. God and mortal alike trembled in fear, as the monstrous force of nature did battle against the sky itself. In the end, Zeus managed to defeat Typhon, driving him away. Mighty Zeus picked up a nearby mountain and threw it on top of Typhon, creating what is known today as Mount Etna, permanently infused with fire, death and ash from the great beast who lies within.
Zeus had protected his throne. But he had only won by the grace of the Moirai.
