that’s piracy
you can sue anybody for anything really
also we’re literally going nowhere
let the hosts publicly clarify exactly what happened or stop making assumptions that will literally never do any good for anyone
Which was started by Eevee, IIRC.
wait how does co rights work
marl was either a cohost or a host how the fuck does that factor into it
Eevee just made vague threats. I don’t think he’d actually waste money on legal fees over this.
I stole the Rolelist in both games and not this one how the hell could you not put that running gag into this game
that is the crux of the argument, yes
he wanted to make CFM3 himself and asked the hosts to change the name
Things escalated somehow - nobody outside of hostchat knows how, and unless they release screenshots we never will
And then we got to the public-facing modkill and renaming of the game
community forum mafia 1 was hosted by marl so i don’t think the argument amounts to anything
again, you’re talking out of your ass unless you’re telling me the hosts added you to the discussion to help defuse the situation (which, let’s be real, definitely didn’t happen)
Speculating is dangerous at best.
Co-ownership of trademarks exist, but since I doubt Eevee registered it then it’d be another mess in court.
Like, I don’t think Eevee would likely win if he went to court, but because of the risk of losing a suit I think changing the name was good policy.
It was a joint effort.
That’s literally what the hosts said.
I’m going to be straight honest and not beat around the bush here - I do not inherently trust the hosts to give an unbiased account of events and do not plan on taking the words they put out while in the middle of freaking out about the situation as truth. This is not me accusing them of hiding things, mind you - stressful situations are just inherently emotional and there’s bias to everything that gets amplified tenfold when under duress.
If they publicly clarify now that things are no longer an emergency, I will be more inclined to listen to what they’re saying than what they said while in the middle of having a panic attack. And, if they want to be completely transparent, they could just show us everything that went down - not like it’d hurt them, and I doubt eevee would care (although obviously he should still be asked).
But until and unless at least some sort of official clarification is made, trusting the words of stressed people in the middle of a crisis situation literally never gives an accurate picture.
i dont know what happened but i assume if hosts wanted to talk about it more they probably would have done it when the game ended
eevee threatened legal action for using the name of community forum mafia
situation has cooled off from what i can tell though
i mean like
more than what was already said/what is obvious
to be totally honest I’m not sure if I’m comfortable making a public statement on the matter because I’m vaguely concerned that if I don’t phrase it exactly the way eevee wants he’s going to try and go after us for libel or something
(in the US claims have to be false and defamatory to count as libel but international law on what sorts of speech are illegal varies a lot and I’m not confident in how ‘being on the internet’ intersects with international law on speech)
if general-you are uncomfortable adjusting your view of eevee’s character in response to the events of this game given the lack of an updated official clarification then that’s … fine? none of us are asking you to dislike eevee? that’s not our goal here?
can’t be libel if you just post screenshots
but yeah that’s understandable
clearly this is not the first time eevee has been incredibly stubborn about things in a way that has really not worked out well in the long term
But my point is that making shit up based on filling in the gaps from what you and the other hosts have already said isn’t going to help anyone.
since i dont give a damn about legal action
he tried to claim full ownership of the name, even though the original setup was created by me (he only ran events and helped with itas)
and when this was brought up in counterpoint he claimed i was an “independant contractor” hired to work on his game
so i’m still waiting on my paycheck for that game from 3 years ago
