After all. Rigging an event to kill someone has fringe uses for a townie.

So do we send 2 times 100 times 0 character messages or 0 characters or absolutely nothing.

I haven’t added it yet to the OP because Im not finished yet, but there are going to be a few changes to the ability pool that might also help with this, what I have planned so far is this:

  • Ability pool will be equal to the number of living players-2, with a minimum of 3 abilities.
  • Exactly 1 ability will be a golden one. The rest will be common abilities.
  • There is a higher chance that the ability pool will roll abilities from different types.
  • There will be a cap for the number of scum abilities and abilities that only benefit a certain faction that can spawn in the pool. This cap depends on the number of living players.

The ability pool will still be random, but Im trying to change some of the odds slightly to make sure the ability pool has more options. I’m writing a simple program to help me roll the abilities instead of doing it online like in the first poker mafia.

Basically all this program will do is make sure the pool won’t roll 10 scum abilities or 10 heals.

That doesn’t actually address my issue in any way. The problem is how unless the ability is completely broken (golden ability’s only) there is little purpose to waste tokens on an ability that you would never use. This removes most of the WIFOM. This isn’t as bad with the town sided ability’s where using them can give you town credit but it’s still a problem there too. You can always do better maximizing efficiency by going for ability’s that benefit everyone or spending a relatively small amount on ability’s that only help you.

For example with the CS one. If you instead make it always kill the target but then make you kill yourself the next night if you kill a town then it will at least have fringe Scum use for doing a 1for1 trade.

Ok, I might change those types of abilities then, at least so they can have a niche use on any faction even if its not that useful. Would you mind giving me more examples of abilities that should be changed?

Make this ability actually attack and heal the target

Have this one give feedback when it’s healed

Just remove this one. It’s so terrible to be unable to play for up to 3 irl days

I spent loads of coins on the bus driver last game because it is a really strong ability for scum to have.

It’s fine having abilities which are really good for certain factions it just means you have to be clever with what you bet on.

Yes but it also has use for you directly. It’s fine for an ability to be better for a spacific faction but it needs to not be totally useless for the other ones.

I disagree. The majority of abilities are good for both and that is all that is needed. Every round there will be 1 or 2 abilities only viable for 1 faction but that just gives players an interesting choice if they want to deny the enemy or improve themself.

Did you not read what I already said? Those ability’s lose any value for WIFOM when they are completely useless to 1 or more factions.

Niche uses is all that is needed to solve that.

I read it but it is wrong. You don’t know if your enemy will try deny you.

I know that they shouldn’t as it means they are spending more coins than me AND are not getting an ability out of it (in practice)

But denying your enemy an ability is an asset in itself.

One which is always by definition worth less than what you spent to do it.
