FoL Feedback Thread

Wrong invests say otherwise, also I can try and fail terribly. I try and be more active as scum but it rarely works. Trying is very subjective. My meta is me trying hard, it’s just my best is not enough 90% of the time that I just get caught

I mean, you can win even if you get caught

But I dont feel like I earned it

I was trying to sacrifice myself in FoL20 as MM, because I knew we would win without me too, mathematically. I don’t even got lynched, but yeah. Bussing on purpose is powerful, especially in a conversion system.

You basically want to die, because you are expendable as cultseen. That’s why it’s not that important to have a 100% good fake claim

In fact you should try to get someone from your team killed, since it actually helps you :eyes: since it makes place for another conversion.

if you have no place for conversion yes

With Unseen promotion system update, there’s a sizeable dissentive to bussing og MM/Ass
I think it’s balanced in that regard now

My point is just, even when you know how FM should be balanced, it doesn’t mean you know it necessarily for FoL, since it’s promotion + multiball.

FoL is heavily modified FM
It’s Mafia.
It still can and should be calculated using FM balancing methods, as it is literally just FM.

Can you enlighten me, where can I read about balancing promotion systems or multiball? I’d like to learn something.

There are numerous resources on how to balance multiball considering it’s a fairly widespread practice.
Mashes and many many MS games are examples.
Any setup that has ever included a Serial Killer is a multiball setup.

It’s based off of dedicated factional killers.

As for resources, MU university articles are the best shot. They go over traditional FM, but lessons from it can be applied to FoL fairly easily

I go by this quote a lot:

Town shouldn’t ever lose the ability to figure out the game. Setups that give so much utility to mafia that will remove the town’s deduction power (for example by silencing or night skipping) are naturally scum sided. A game of mafia is a competitive game where town must be allowed to make the correct decisions in order to win. Making unlynchable scum or punishing town for finding scum are highly demotivating and should not be used a lot.

Yeah I have just my experience from 3000 matches ToL, but I want to mix it with FM experience, since FoL is both. You can’t balance FoL if you don’t know both, I guess.

When it comes to balance…sort of.
It’s not necessary to know FM extremely well in order to balance. All that needs to be understanded imo is expected values and kp ratio

The Setup:
Cop
Doc
Roleblocker
Vig 1-Shot
Inno
4 Vanilla Town
1 SK (Investigation Immune OR 1-Shot Bulletproof)

3 Wolves (Goon + Roleblocker + Godfather)

There are 5 mechanical clears in this setup. 3 of them (cop, inno, vig) are guaranteed. Maybe the Doctor or Roleblocker get lynched, but usually not.

There are 5 non-clears on Day 1. Wolves need to lynch 4 of them (80%).
The setup should be nigh unwinnable, and I didn’t even consider what all the town PRs are capable of, just that they were unlynchable.

If scum can’t mislynch anyone, they aren’t going to be able to win unless town plays like potatoes and vig themselves to death.
And there’s another case on a different side of the coin.

If town correctly lynch + vig every day, they shouldn’t lose. If town figures out who all the scum / town are at a reasonable time, they should win.
What defines reasonable is variable.

Ye, FoL is a bit complicated since every player is a PR :eyes:

It’s rolemadness, which no matter what is done cannot be perfectly balanced
As a result, using ranges is an effective method of evaluating individual performance of each role

That’s how I mathed out faction kp

It’s a lot easier to balance a setup when you play the game rather then using numbers

unfortunately we don’t have over 10k worth of games to use as a balance indicator
