Just fyi, discord is also a good place to discuss balancing. We had some interesting talks already.

this isnt tol

this is fol

plus doing it behind closed doors kinda leaves out people from the process.

its best to gather a shitton of ideas and then sift through them to see whats best for the game

But what if we do it anyways and then patch up the holes to give games that are longer and on average more fun

After all, it’s removing a slot with ā€œno chance to winā€, so why should people care for it when the game could also be balanced without it?

That was not the point. I meant: there’s some other audience too, a silent majority of fol players who don’t speak here often.

You can’t just balance everything somehow, just because some really loud people are wanting it. You have to think about it in-depth and try to think on everything.

If I’m honest, short game length doesn’t bother me.

Because after like 4 days, the game dies out and had like 15 hour silence periods

I don’t see why not tbh

We’ve already made drastic changes before :man_shrugging:

And if that’s what’s best for the game, maybe change isn’t all that bad.

it’s a lot easier to discuss things here

I don’t get why they won’t talk here if they play on the forums

That’s why I have vested interest in trying out an FoL without NK
Sure, it damages some sort of spirit inherent to ToL, but the main gut of ToL stays

That being

  • King with undeterminable mechanical alignment
  • Conversion based scumteams
  • Rolemadness where all roles have multiple abilities

Keyword is vested
I’m looking for alternatives

I don’t think anyone here, on the ToL forums, dislikes ToL.

However, we’ve been pretty good about pushing the game in a direction we feel is best for it, even if that’s not what ToL does at the time. If it’s a good change, it can be worth diverting a little bit - and there are a decent number of times where a change we’ve made eventually gets added to ToL after we’ve proved it works well.

  • King with undeterminable mechanical alignment
  • Conversion based scumteams
  • Rolemadness where all roles have multiple abilities
  • Punishing yolo lynches/executes by town
  • Having a strong town class (Prince)
  • Having a NK which you can play against the other side.
  • Having neutrals you can try to win for your side.

(sorry, who of the tol people even knows that fol is existing… don’t overestimate the importance of fol)
