Julia stares at Jacob

Jacob looks at Julia and back to the roses, determined. “Yes. I promise. I’ll find out what’s causing this and put a stop to it. I won’t rest until I do.”
Oh. I was not aware of that.
I am a peculiar case. I actually was alive yesterday. But yet, not the week before.

“No.” Reality kicks in and Jacob realizes he is speaking to a spirit. Regardless, he shows Julia his card. “This card grants me abilities. See here, I cannot lie while holding it. I swear until I breathe my dying breath, I won’t stop until I’ve brought these Flowers peace. So, I know it might hurt, but please tell me the circumstances regarding this manor and your death.”
I say dead, but it’s a bit different. It’s more like my soul peacefully and temporarily leaving my body on my command. The main difference is that I can keep my head straight. Speaking of which, most spirits I’ve seen are quite self-centered/single-minded. If you don’t mind my asking, how’ve you managed not to be changed by dying?
